Slow BIOS, but runs Vista well

Peter L., Newegg
10 July 2007
  • Summary: Second time I've built a system, and I'm very happy with it so far. 3-day shipping took 3 days this time, nice job Newegg!
  • Pros: Runs Vista very well, supports quad-core processors, comes with onboard graphics.
  • Cons: BIOS VERY slow at startup when you haven't configured it. Takes about 4 minutes to launch BIOS menu to configure, but gets fast once you've set it up.

Decent Board, some issues

James R., Newegg
21 June 2007
  • Summary: If your planning on purchasing a video card and have no need for the integrated vga graphics card, please buy the 965P-DS3 instead of the 965G-DS3. The P does not have integrated graphics, which is what seems to cause the ram problems.
  • Pros: Solid board, easy to get things in place, hard to break it
  • Cons: The integrated video causes ram issues with many different ram brands. I was only able to ever get it to boot with Corsair XMS 2 5-5-5-12 ram (i tried other corsair xms2 with dif speeds and gskill, just gave memory error beeps on boot).

Not for OC, especially for Memory

Yeheng G., Newegg
10 May 2007
  • Summary: At the time I test the board, I don't have a PCIE video card. Onboard video definitely put a limit on the OC ability. Many times, the crash begin with a random color splash on the screen. If you want a quiet Home server machine, 965G might be your choice.
  • Pros: Looks nice. Easy to install. Easytune makes causal OC easier.
  • Cons: It's NOT FOR OVER CLOCKING!!! Very limited Bios options. Although you can adjust the volt on CPU, RAM,etc. There is no option to change the Memory CAS setting. Well, so if you got rams which could run on 4-4-4-4-12, it would be run on 5-5-5-5 18.

NOT an overclockers board.

Anonymous, Newegg
13 March 2007
  • Summary: I bought this mobo when I was building a computer for my brother in law's recording studio. I decided to go with this model cause he didn't need anything too visual so the integrated chip would be perfect.
  • Pros: Everything worked and still does. Works great in a reverse mounting case, with the 120mm fans in front and back.
  • Cons: I read about the 965P and heard from many sources it was to be the best OC'ing chipset out there. I figured smae for the 965G but I was wrong. Gigabyte puts a limit on how fast this mobo can be clocked. The BIOS lets you change FSB to as high as possible but the computer won't boot. I only got aw...

GA-965G-DS3

Don C., Newegg
12 March 2007
  • Summary: Generally unimpressed, didn't hold a candle to the ASUS P5B Deluxe. Returned them both.
  • Pros: cost I guest, maybe all-solid capacitor design?
  • Cons: No fan headers, firewire, cheap connectors, and not many accessories as in the past boards I've purchased from gigabyte. Also, one of the two died after a couple hours.

Gigabyte Mobo

Anonymous, Newegg
5 March 2007
  • Summary: I think I might be replacing this board soon with a different model.
  • Pros: Worked great for the first 6 months.
  • Cons: After owning this board for 6 months and running Raid0, the Raid controller refuses to identify one of the hard drives. I tried swapping HDD's but it made no difference. I was able to hook up both HDD's to the standard SATA ports without a problem, but had to reformat. Minor inconvenience to re-i...

Does not overclock

Anonymous, Newegg
12 February 2007
  • Pros: Good stable board. Onboard video handy if you do not need gaming power.
  • Cons: Onboard video seems to limit overclocking of this board. FSB limitation of 285.

Giga

Richard J., Newegg
29 November 2006
  • Pros: Easy setup. Clean layout. Only issues see the cons. Working fine so far.
  • Cons: Raid setup wasn't clear and I had to call Gigabyte to find out that only the 2 purple sata slots support raid (Intel's don't). No Firewire support. Using a Core 2 cpu and the fan setup isn't easy or intuitive.

Limit on overclocking

Anonymous, Newegg
24 September 2006
  • Summary: Apparently intel has placed a limit in the chipset to protect the intgrated graphics chip from damage during overclocking-see thread on anandteck forums (search for "965G").
  • Pros: Pretty good board with o/c options & integrated graphics. Mildly overclocked-running E6400 @ 340mhz FSB. No issues with Corsair 800mhz 2gb ram.
  • Cons: Not able to get anything over 340FSB but I'm not the best overclocker in the world. See below for some more limitations. I'll probably RMA for 965p-ds3 instead.

Gigabyte 965G DS3

cuthbert, Ciao
5 March 2007
  • Pros: Gute Austattung
  • Cons: nicht zum Übertakten geeignet
