It had its time

Corfian, Ciao
11 June 2001
  • Excerpt: "...had its time, I think Gigabyte have stopped making it as I can hardly find it from retailers. If you are about to build a PC and you are going to buy this motherboard I would have a second thought. Don’t get me wrong it is a great Motherboard but the only best chip for it still produced is probably the K6-2 500 at about £35. Once you bought this that is it, you can’t upgrade to anything higher. This means that if you decide to upgrade ...

Very stable board.

  • Excerpt: "...annoying. I'm not sure whether Gigabyte use cheap ps/2 ports or not, but i have had my fair share of troubles with them. My latest keyboard reports an error after cold boot if the pc hasn't been completely switched off from the wall. I also start windows sometimes to find my mouse has not been recognised. Support from gigabyte is brilliant, it used to be non existent then out of nowhere a support Tech arrived in the gigabyte newsgroup, he will answer ...

Lack of support

stevejenk..., Ciao
15 March 2001
  • Excerpt: "...compatbility problem as well. Checked the Gigabyte site, downloaded the flash. I saw no litrature as to what to do or anything like that. Fair enough it must be included on the download. I opened this up and no joy there but there an exe file. Last record I though the instructions would be included in that. I opened this and show a load of jiberish, no help no nothing. As a result it attempted to upgrade my bios without my knowledge. As ...

Should not be on sale!

neuro, Ciao
10 November 2000
  • Excerpt: "...every time I use it. Gigabyte have known about this problem for 2 years apparently but they have not withdrawn the board from sale. Both Gigabytes website and that of Alladin the chipset maker's are unhelpfull. ALi's offers 2 updates for it, IDE and AGP drivers. I could not get the AGP one to work as it refused to recognise that I had v2.1 of win95. Minor quibbles include the fact that access to one of the memory slots is restricted by the ...
  • Pros: Cheap, range of features .
  • Cons: Dire AGP slot

Good features but not so good quality!

skyrack, Ciao
12 June 2000
  • Excerpt: "...weeks of phoning and e-mailing, Gigabyte didn't adhere to the AGP standards so any high-performance card won't be compatible(this is what I have concluded anyway). Gigabyte support has been very poor. There is no phone number to call for technical support and e-mails do not get replied to. They do provide BIOS updates frequently but even these have bugs in them and do more harm than good. In my opinion I would stay clear of this motherboard ...
  • Pros: Good features  -  5 pci, can have chips upto 550mhz, 768mb RAM capacity, easy to install

  • Pros: Preis
  • Cons: AGP - Slot
