Excerpt: One of the things that arguably penalizes the current P55A/H55 budget and mainstream motherboards is the sharing of the system bus that connects the PCI Express, USB 3.0, and SATA3 devices. So basically, the more video cards and devices you add to the bus the more each devices’ transfer rates take a performance hit. But, not too many folks realistically …
Conclusion: In this section I am going to write a brief five point summary on the following categories; Performance, Appearance, Construction, Functionality and Value. These views are my own and help me to give the ECS P55H-AK Motherboard a rating out of 10, a high score does not necessarily mean that it is better or worse than a similar motherboard which has been reviewed by another writer here at Benchmark Reviews, that may have got a lower score.
Pros: PLX PEX8608 Switch adds 32 PCIe lanes, Four SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports, Four SATA 6Gb/s ports, Triple SLI / CrossFire support, 210MHz BCLK, Very attractive appearance, Superb motherboard component layout, On-board diagnostics and power/reset buttons
Cons: Overclocking in BIOS could be better, High price for a P55 Motherboard, Triple VGA setup may possibly limit case options
Summary: ECS have developed a new, easy to use P55 motherboard named P55H-AK which sports lots of features like USB 3.0, SATA 6Gb/s. The Nvidia NF2100 which functions as x16 PCie lane switch chip in-between the x16 PCIe graphics slots, enabling 3-way SLI as an option in a 16:8:8 configuration. The motherboard also comes with a USB 3.0 front panel, which is very useful.
Conclusion: With an MSRP of $299, the ECS P55H-AK Black sits near the top of the price list for socket 1156 motherboards, and for good reason. This board packs more features than any other socket 1156 board and includes one feature (eSATA 6G) that no other Intel board currently has. The price lands it squarely in competition with Socket 1366 motherboards though, and this causes a bit of a dilemma: which platform to choose. If you are building a triple-GPU-overclocking system on a...
Conclusion: Extra goodies aside, the ECS P55H-AK supports 3-way SLI or CrossFireX along with support for unlocked Core i7 and i5 processors. Dual Channel memory can go all the way up to 2400 MHz with overclocking, supporting 16GB onboard. Besides that, the rear I/O panel also supports eight USB 2.0 ports, two gigabit LAN ports and your regular ports for 8 channel audio out.
