These companies have been competing for the top spot in the AMD chipset market for some time now. When VIA introduced the KT400, NVIDIA stepped up with their nForce2 and have since won the hearts, and dollars, of many users.
Conclusion: I really don't think that there's anything that I can say at this point that you yourself probably aren't already thinking. It would seem that although it was over half a year in the making, the "a" update of the KT400 chipset, aside from the addition of some new features, still suffers from the same performance problems of the original.
Conclusion: Chaintech NFORCE2 pulls out in front completing the project 2 minutes ahead of the pack. The Gigabyte KT400A chipset pulls in second but the overall scores are acceptably close. Overclocking The DFI KT400A LanParty is rivaled by the Chaintech 7NJS Zenith NFORCE2 package. Both are within a few dollars of each other.
