Problems after 18 months

Steven S., Newegg
2 September 2013
  • Summary: After 18 months the PC would simply randomly lockup. I suspected a heat related issue, so we pulled the CPU & GPU coolers and new Artic 5 thermal past. No change. Seems to be associated with the USB ports in some way. This happened to a couple of P35 Gigabtye boards to me a couple years ago.
  • Pros: Nice feature set.
  • Cons: Longevity is in question

Limited Ivy Bridge Support

Timothy M., Newegg
24 January 2013
  • Summary: Was a nice budget board a year ago or so.
  • Pros: Was great with a Sandy Bridge processor. Solid overclocker.
  • Cons: Will need to flash bios with a Sandy Bridge processor first, before it will accept an Ivy Bridge. CPU ratio will not go above 39 (turbo limit). So no overclocking with Ivy Bridge-K processors. I've contacted Biostar on multiple occasions inquiring if they intend on a fix for lack of overclock on ...

Wow...

Alexander S., Newegg
5 January 2013
  • Summary: Thanks for the board, and hopefully you'll have a more effective bios update next time. And try not slapping stickers on things after they've been on the shelve 12 months newegg, they may be outdated...
  • Pros: This motherboard was cheap and is effective for the most part.
  • Cons: Didn't come ready for 22nm CPU as it stated on the box, had to order an older generation sandy bridge to flash the bios and use it. Not only that but I dont see any support for the IVB integrated 4000 graphics (not a big thing) or overclocking past 39 on IVB. If you want any of these features go ...

Works pretty amazingly

Derrick H., Newegg
1 April 2012
  • Summary: Biostar has some amazing products, would always choose them in the future mostlikely.
  • Pros: Very good motherboard, easy to use, works great.
  • Cons: I bought 4 X 4gb memory and for some reason when i have all 4 in it, i get BSOD, however with 2 in there it works wonders. my only complaint. Will look into it more soon though.

great board, bad ram slot

Kenneth C., Newegg
8 February 2012
  • Summary: I understand newegg is just a reseller, but punishing the buyer is not the way to make a customer happy. I think there should be some kind of shipping discount at the least. $14 just for the board when my entire order was only $5 to ship? Disappointed
  • Pros: board was really easy to setup. love the new bios. start to finish with new win 7 install in under an hour.
  • Cons: bad ram slot. wouldn't be so bad except its one of the required slots to run dual channel. it will take $14 to send it back rma! then a two week turnaround to get another board. that is ridiculous! shame on newegg. I don't think its worth the hassle since dual channel usually provides less than 1...

User Review

Jeremy P., Newegg
21 November 2011
  • Pros: Board is functional in all ways except 2. Setup was easy enough and board/system appears stable.
  • Cons: 1) Cannot boot from usb thumb drive to install an OS(11/16/11 bios, tried setting usb device as hdd/fdd/cd-rom) Same thumbdrive works on other systems. Had to take a dvd drive from another machine to install windows. 2) Using a G.skills Phoenix Pro(128 gb, 4.2 firmware) ssd and a 1 terabyte Seaga...

Memory Issue

Ryan H., Newegg
11 November 2011
  • Summary: If it accepted my memory I'm sure it's a great mobo
  • Pros: Very nice board with some sweet features, as many other have stated. Love the LED lights to tell you what the problem is.
  • Cons: Won't run my DDR3 1600 G. Skills Ripjaws 4x4GB...Everyone else is saying that their memory is working fine at 1600, although the standard memory is 1066/1333. Maybe I'm the only one having this problem

works - sort of

Robert Y., Newegg
17 October 2011
  • Summary: This is my first experience with a Biostar motherboard. My build went together fairly easily and performance is pretty good with an i5-2500K processor. The ATX power cable was a little annoying and an added $8 expense for the extension.
  • Pros: - feature packed for the price - performance is good
  • Cons: - solder points left a little long on the underside of the board, this caused a short with an aux CPU cooler backplate that I had to track down - location of the ATX power connector is bad for cases with bottom mounted power supply, probably means you need an extension for it - I still haven't be...

Good Product, Terrible Documantation

Marc B., Newegg
14 August 2011
  • Summary: I'm taking 2 stars off because of the poor documentation. And I'll be happy to add them back if Biostar ever comes up with a decent manual. Some people may think that if one doesn't know what these settings are for, then one should not touch them and just use the factory defaults.
  • Pros: This is a great buy. You get the latest technology for an unbeatable low price. I was amazed that I didn't even have to buy a graphics card without any noticeable drop in video performance. It's a no-frills board, but it has all the features I needed and wanted.
  • Cons: The BIOS manual is terrible, as in terribly uninformative. It hardly contains anything beyond what's in the BIOS itself. All I was looking for is a little bit of explanation telling me what the settings are. For example, the box shows this to be an "Energy Using Product" and there is in the BIOS ...

Great mobo, dead CMOS battery?

Michele R., Newegg
14 August 2011
  • Summary: Works great... now.
  • Pros: It's a good motherboard. Socket 1155. Pretty inexpensive. Plus it's recommended by techpowerup.
  • Cons: For some reason the CMOS kept failing on me just after putting my box together. Turns out the battery was pretty much shot right out of the box. Had to buy a replacement battery. For this, it gets 3 eggs.
