I would buy another...

Ernie C., Newegg
3 May 2014
  • Summary: Mine ate it's own BIOS chip once, but I suspect the chip was faulty. BIOSTAR sent a replacement chip (it failed within warranty), and the board booted straight away and hasn't had a problem since.
  • Pros: 990FX AM3+ 140W CPU Support Dual 16x PCI-E CFX/SLi support USB 3.0 header GBit Lan Up to 32GB RAM Power/Reset/Debug on board Like the Red, White, & Black color scheme. Trumps any 970 board for sure, and was at one point the cheapest 990FX mobo available.
  • Cons: Only supports up to FX 8350 16x slots too close together only three fan headers -one "smart" CPU fan header -one adjustable (only with SpeedFan) header -one non-adjustable header The fan headers are annoying and poorly placed. And there should be five instead of three. And they should ALL be adju...

Decent Board

Gavin P., Newegg
29 January 2014
  • Summary: For the price I paid, I feel like I've got a decent value. I will be upgrading to a new board soon, and its very doubtful it'll be one from Biostar.
  • Pros: I have had no issues with this and have happily OC'ed my FX8350 and my RAM to 1866.
  • Cons: Like others have mentioned, I have had a weird static interference noise. Its especially noticeable when using headphones.

Solid board, clunky BIOS

Joonte L., Newegg
20 May 2013
  • Summary: My attempt at RAM overclock crashed and burned. Not sure if it was the board's fault, so I'll leave it in "other thoughts." Whether I was trying to lower the latencies or get it up to 1866, I got no-boots and blue-screens left and right.
  • Pros: Worked. Sorry to hear DOA problems from others, but mine booted the OS and all just fine. My whole thing was to run a big CPU overclock, and yes, I got my FX-6300 to 4.4 Ghz @ ~1.5V (thank you beast cooler). North bridge stably clocked to 2.4 Ghz without a hitch, even though it doesn't matter too...
  • Cons: BIOS program is a bit iffy. Lack of precise control for voltage and clock speeds... I could not get a successful boot unless my overvolt was a multiple of 0.05 (stock 1.2625, volt to 1.3125, 1.3625, 1.4125, etc). Also, you have to find a precise balance between changing the actual voltage number ...

Audio Problem

Chris B., Newegg
11 May 2013
  • Summary: Disabled on board sound and put in PCI sound card. Same noise. Bought extended warranty from Service Net but that does not kick in until mfg warranty expires. Hopefully Biostar will exchange without hassle.
  • Pros: Great board with many features.
  • Cons: Has loud radio interference.

Good board, great price

Shani W., Newegg
4 April 2013
  • Summary: If your looking for a good board, without breaking the bank, this performs beautifully.
  • Pros: Solid board, good price. I was a bit nervous about purchasing this mb to begin with, being as I have only dealt with Asus mb's in my prior builds. To my delight this board was a solid purchase. The only complaint I had was the missing mb stand off's, sorry had to ding an egg for that one.
  • Cons: Missing 1 set of mb stand offs.

john b., Newegg
21 March 2013
  • Summary: never had a bad biostar board only asus and gigabyte in the past.
  • Pros: Folks are you all having some problems.... This board has served me well.. note.. 1 MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST A 600 WATT POWER SUPPLY.. a good one for a good company not one of those freebies you get with your cheap case. 2 Good ram is the key I chose gskill but there are many other brand s tha...
  • Cons: none as of this time just make sure you update and flash bios as needed

CrossfireX & 8350 capable.

Robert L., Newegg
12 March 2013
  • Summary: I did update BIOS via (F12) motherboard BIOS update tool, software method fails in Win 8 Pro. I run a couple of VM's and do transcoding, with some gaming thus my choice of the 8350.
  • Pros: Straight forward and fairly simple to setup. 8350 worked right out of the box. CrossfiredX 7770's are working wonderfully on this motherboard.
  • Cons: Case fan speeds are not varied in speed while plugged into the mother board. I suggest getting a case fan controller. 4 egg due to the lack of chassis fan control, but price and capability it's 5.

Yup. I'm right. No SLI connector as stated below.

Michael M., Newegg
8 March 2013
  • Summary: Wish we had done more research on the Biostar forums, which mention the issue of the PCIe slots and overheating.
  • Pros: In response to the last comment posted: If you read my review below carefully you will realize that we do not have ATI graphics cards (owned by AMD and uses Crossfire connector). We have a pair of Nvidia graphics cards (not owned by AMD and uses SLI connector). This motherboard only has a Crossfi...
  • Cons: After owning this board for a while, we may end up RMAing it for another brand. The 16x PCI express slots are too close together. When installing 2 graphics cards together, the fan from the 1st card gets covered by the back of the 2nd card, causing the 1st card to overheat on games that are graph...

  • Pros: easy BIOS setup all ram came with all kinds of extras love the color and the onboard temp LCD display
  • Cons: still can't get ram to set as 1866 downloaded all driver updates it still 1600 also pci x16 slots are very tight for crossfire of double Decker cards
