Idea was good...

Dmitry R., Newegg
10 August 2013
  • Summary: Buying this MO is pure gambling, good luck...
  • Pros: Loaded & promising... Very beautiful box.
  • Cons: My nightmare has started in May. MO didn't post any GTX 6xx cards regardless of BIOS version nor tempering with thereof nor drivers nor changing power plant (from 850W to 1500W), well this was only beginning of sorrows... things get much worse after Flashing BIOS to version 5103 (the last one) so...

  • Summary: I ordered a replacement Bios chip to keep on hand to swap to aviod down time and waste of money to have them swap the Bios chip. ASUS should list the Bios as beta on the web site and not have people unknowningly test thier junk Bios for them!
  • Pros: Loaded with everything you could want in a high end motherboard
  • Cons: Bios SUCKS!!!! Be warned that the Bios for this motherboard is really still in Beta, if the version you have is working for you DO NOT UPGRADE!!!!!!! Upgraded to version 5004, made some changes in the Bios and completely locked up the motherboard. Sent in for RMA work and there fix was to flash/u...

Still issues with PCIe

David D., Newegg
3 February 2013
  • Summary: Benson, please go check the ROG non-Intel thread for further information. Yes your techs have been able to successfully mimic some results, but not all. The K5000 issue still exists.
  • Pros: With the exception of the PCIe issues (256mb memory BAR for the K5000, PCIe 2.0/3.0 dynamic handling) the motherboard works ok. When the display is detected for Quadro K5000 and GTX 6XX series cards the platform is rock stable past POST.
  • Cons: Sadly (ignoring the previous obnoxious comment RE: you're doing something wrong), i've been in a month long discussion between ASUS, nVidia, PNY and EVGA regarding poor coding practices which have lead the SBIOS to a number of display detection issues. Rest assured there are alot of people out th...

  • Pros: Better form factor than SR-X Good PCI-E lane to processor design Good Memory Support
  • Cons: Latest August Bios still does not support Windows 8 or Server 2012, on installing you get stuck with "ACPI_BIOS_ERROR". This is bad, this problem should have been adresses a long time ago. This needs to be addressed.

  • Summary: I've owned Asus boards for over 10 years or so now and i have to say that they've always held up and not once have given me problems. this board has given me no problems whatsoever and i dont expect it to. the only concern i have is the compatibility issues regarding win8.
  • Pros: DUAL XEON 2011 BOARD...can't get much clearer than that, can it. It's also posted in the description...anyways, this is my first ws/server board and so far i am very pleased. Booted right up, no problems whatsoever. Looks freakin awesome in my cosmos 2 case...bios is techie capable as well as avg...
  • Cons: Okay, the first con is kinda funny...not a huge issue but why would you include a 2 in 1 q-connector when it doesnt fit on the mobo's front panel??? the second con is one i hope asus can address for me, because i'm getting confused with the asus tech support phone reps. the issue is in regards to...

This is a "Server" board

Peter D., Newegg
9 May 2012
  • Summary: Asus said they may start supporting enthusiast CPU's but no specific date on when. Also keep in mind the power draw of your CPU's as you may need to get a large power supply.
  • Pros: ASUS support was very nice as was Newegg on the RMA.
  • Cons: -1 egg for poor CPU support. -1 egg for defective components This board does not support all Intel 2011 CPU's. It only supports specific Zeon CPU's found on the ASUS website. It also did not include a fully punched out power/reset/sound block and we had to manually seat them on the motherboard. M...
