Somewhere between Meh and junk.

jason d., Newegg
3 February 2016
  • Summary: If I didn't get this board for basically nothing I would never buy it or recommend it.
  • Pros: It works just fine, but it is far from special in any way. Cheap.I got this board basically for free as a combo with a 4790k.
  • Cons: Gets super hot. Does not overclock well at all. Horrible yellowish baby poop color. NFC reader that came with it is completely and utterly useless. It works, sometimes, and when it does it takes several tries to get it to read. It is slower than using a password, so i pretty much just dumped it. ...

2 year ASUS Z87-A

ANATOLY S., Newegg
10 August 2015
  • Summary: Was nice while it lasted.
  • Pros: Very easy to set up - has mouse support in BIOS, many OC pre-sets. Power button on the MoBo (no need to connect to chassis power button while testing) Nice organizer for front panel connections.
  • Cons: Lasted only 2 years. Almost exactly 2 years after purchase, stopped booting up reliably after a full shutdown. On startup it now finds random problems: sometimes BOOT_DEVICE_LED stays on, sometimes POST tells me that the KB is not detected, etc. Thankfully, it goes to sleep and wakes up, and rest...

Markus K., Newegg
10 August 2015
  • Pros: Normally Asus is a reliable Company, with great Support.
  • Cons: Motherboard won't work with 4th Generation CPU if Bios not up to date.

Ran for one month, swapped cases, died.

Seth L., Newegg
13 May 2015
  • Summary: I have created a RMA with ASUS. I will reply when this gets resolved. Hopefully it does not take too long.
  • Pros: I got this as a part of a combo deal - loved it while it worked
  • Cons: Died after changing cases. There are many reports of DOA or bad boards here... Looks like I got one too.

Defective Product

Rick W., Newegg
10 May 2015
  • Summary: I'm very disappointed in my purchase. I defied the questionable reviews because I thought this motherboard brought a lot to the table feature-wise for its price, and I was punished for it.
  • Pros: I wasn't able to learn about the pro's of the product because it was defective out of the box.
  • Cons: The product was completely unusable. Pins in the cpu socket were clearly damaged/out of place. It took about 5 seconds for me to see there was clearly something wrong with the motherboard. Luckily I didn't damage my cpu by trying to get it in.

it works

TIMOTHY G., Newegg
27 March 2015
  • Pros: The color
  • Cons: The integrated audio was broken since I bought it, but I was able to just use an audio card. The motherboard sometimes refuses to start, and shuts off on its own.

Only "qualified" video cards are supported???

WILLIAM S., Newegg
9 March 2015
  • Summary: More technical details - based on these troubleshooting steps, it looks like a bug in the BIOS POST code. No PCIe video card - connect to motherboard / Intel integrated video - boots fine. Swap in GeForce 650Ti Boost - POST locks at CPU check (CPU diagnostic light on), no video from any video port.
  • Pros: Low price, good performance, part of a NewEgg combo deal on March 3, 2015
  • Cons: Would not boot with my mainstream video card purchased May of 2013: PNY GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST 2GB (NewEgg item #N82E16814133487) Submitted a tech support request via ASUS web site, waited 2 days for a response. "We'd love to help! Unfortunately, your video card is incompatible. Pick a differen...

Cannot RMA

Ford A., Newegg
16 January 2015
  • Pros: Worked great for what I was doing. Never ran into any issues until recently (see cons)
  • Cons: The customer service experience with Asus has been horrible for me so far. It died on me without warning one day. And when I try to do a RMA it will not take my serial at all so I can't even try and get it replaced under warranty without the SN. I tried directly contacting Asus several times thro...

Not getting another one

Jesus G., Newegg
25 October 2014
  • Pros: Decently priced for a Asus board, nothing fancy but not lacking either. Had plenty of USB 3.0 for me, as well as a good variety of display source options. Supported a good amount of fans as well. Overall well built and sturdy. Were it not for the problems I had, I would have no problem purchasing...
  • Cons: Easy one is color. Sure black and red is everywhere, but I didnt care for the black/gold/yellow theme here. The main issue with the board that presented itself was the random failure to post, showing random sources for the problems. By that I mean, it would fail to post, and the CPU led light on ...

Check your power supply!

Ross T., Newegg
14 September 2014
  • Summary: I really wish this didn't have the problem it does. Seemed like a great board for a great price. I like the layout, the features and as I mentioned, the BIOS was really well thought out. What a shame.
  • Pros: Board has nice included BIOS (When you can get to it) and a super easy/fast Firmware update process.
  • Cons: This board has issues with quite a few different power supplies. After bench testing my parts with this motherboard and a new CPU (4460) the red CPU error LED on the board stays lit. I changed out parts until the only factor left was the PSU. Plugged in an old PSU that I had laying around and the...
