However, they're also far more expensive than its mainstream models and indeed some of their competitors too.
Excerpt: The Z87-A comes to market with a street price of $144.99 directly from Newegg at the time of writing. This places it at a super competitive segment of the market for boards that support dual SLI or CrossfireX, with most boards being right around the same price. Now let’s see what the Z87-A offers that makes it worth your purchase over the others in this price category.
Summary: My experiences with the Z87-A were nothing short of excellent. The out of the box experience was flawless. I had no stability issues or other odd problems. The platform felt more mature than it is. ASUS definitely did a good job as this doesn’t feel like the launch of a new line but rather something that we’ve seen many times before. Unfortunately the chipset and CPU aren’t that exciting alone. Fortunately the ASUS Z87-A motherboard is exicting.
Summary: We start today with reviewing new Z87 chipset motherboards, which we will surely see a lot of, with ASUS' new Z87-A motherboard. Before we even got the box open we had to stop for a second and enjoy the simplicity of the name. But don't let the name fool you. There is plenty going on here to keep your enthusiast attention.
Summary: At a price point of $149.99, the ASUS Z87-A is in the Mainstream category of Intel Z87 motherboard systems.
The ASUS Z87-A performed well in all benchmarks and a stable overclock of 4.7 GHz was achieved with the board. SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0 speeds were consistent with what is expected from the Z87 Express Chipset.
Board Layout -
The Z87-A has a standard ATX form factor.
Conclusion: The new ‘golden theme’ which ASUS have brought to Z87 was met with mixed views upon launch back at the beginning of June. After had first-hand experience with the Z87-A, we have to say that seeing it in the flesh, we aren’t too impressed by the aesthetics and styling. The gold heatsinks look good but the colour tone used on the ports and slots aren’t matched very well and thus resemble a yellowy, beige type colour.
Pros: + Good overall performance, + Overclocks well, + UEFI BIOS is nice and easy to use, + ASUS unique features – MemOK! Direct Key, EPU, TPU, + Affordable
Summary: ASUS har virkelig overrasket mig! Bundkortet mangler bl.a. WiFi og Bluetooth, samt et par andre smart funktioner.
