Conclusion: At its core, the Striker II Formula offers exactly what anyone who has experience with previous offerings in ASUS' Republic of Gamers series would expect - A solid and well thought out enthusiast-centric feature set with plenty of nice little touches, coupled with a bewildering array of BIOS overclocking options that make it clear that no stone has been left unturned in the quest to create the perfect motherboard.
ASUS Striker II Extreme (nForce 790i Ultra SLI) review
10 October 2008
Conclusion: For the most part it was able to match the Intel X48 in terms of performance, while it was also marginally slower in a number of tests. If you were to slap a GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card, for example, on this new nForce 790i motherboard, or any of the pre-existing Intel X38 motherboards, picking a difference between them would be very difficult.
Conclusion: The Asus Striker II NSE is an overclocking/enthusiast oriented overclocking motherboard, no doubt about that -- but with our less than positive experience with previous NVIDIA chipsets on the Intel platform, how does the Striker II NSE stack up against the rest? Well, firstly, it made it though out benchmarks haha. Now, onto the overclocking part.
Conclusion: I would like to go as far as saying this is the best DDR2 board we have tested this far when it comes to stability/performance and overclocking. The board cost a bit more but if you want the features you better cash up for them. I will even give this board our Editors choice award for a extreme board that will not dissapoint if you are a overclocker of a casual user.
Conclusion: Final Thoughts and Recommendations NVIDIA's 790i has already proven itself a very capable platform for overclocking, something we did not expect to say considering this is the first (and last?) DDR3 memory controller from the green team. Performance is great, overclocking is easy, and NVIDIA has even managed to keep power consumption in check. By every account, the 790i is a real contender when placed side-by-side with Intel's X48 Express chipset.
Conclusion: Overall the Asus Striker II Formula is an excellent motherboard for overclockers and also for people who are looking for Penryn support in addition to SLI. This motherboard definitely goes above and beyond the norm in every single way with a multitude of features to make for both a better overclocking motherboard and one that is easier to overclock. That and a great software bundle and extra perks like the LCD read out, this definitely makes this board a luxury item.
Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680i Intel Motherboard Review
22 January 2007
Excerpt: The NVIDIA nForce 680i chipset was initially released along side Intel's announcement of the Core 2 Duo line of processors back in November of last year . Since then, the chipset has quickly become the choice of enthusiasts and overclockers looking for a new system based on the Intel CPU platform.
Conclusion: As we mentioned earlier, ASUS uses an 8-phase power design on the Striker Extreme, much like they’ve done on their previous Core 2-ready motherboards like the P5W DH Deluxe and P5B Deluxe. This ensures that the Striker Extreme is ready for the most power hungry Intel CPUs out there, including Intel’s recently released quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6700. ASUS goes one step further though by using all-solid capacitors throughout the rest of the motherboard.
Conclusion: There's no denying that Asus are on a roll at the moment when it comes to releasing top quality motherboards and the Striker II Extreme is yet another trophy for their cabinet. Featuring everything that we've come to expect from the Republic of Gamers series including an extremely comprehensive BIOS with insane voltage options and the Voltminder LED system to give you a visual warning when you're close to cooking your hardware, the Striker II Extreme is guaranteed to...
