Great motherboard for Haswell and Devil's Canyon

Jordan G., Newegg
23 October 2015
  • Summary: Comes with a 5 year warranty, supports all 1150 chips with ease, "EZ Flash bios" was actually incredibly easy to use, and over all great stability and performance all around.
  • Pros: - Board is extremely strong for daily driven overclocks - Included dust covers are fantastic for keeping sockets clean - Thick, sturdy pcb construction gives peace of mind for long term durability - Bios was EXTREMELY EASY to flash to accept my 4790k - XMP profiles are quick to set up - Strong VR...
  • Cons: - BIOS is a bit difficult to use compared to others. Overclocking is NOT difficult, but there are a superfluous amounts of settings to tweak that have seemingly no real impact on either performance nor stability. - The "thermal armor" is... gimmicky. I was expecting something that felt a bit high...

Sabertooth Z87 Very Good Quality

Joseph U., Newegg
21 August 2015
  • Pros: The Sabertooth Z-87 mother board has been pretty rock solid and I was able to over clock my 4770K CPU to 4.2 GHZ and my 1600 memory to 1866. I had to do it manually and wish it had the 5 way optimization that the ROG and some others like the Deluxe motherboard as well.
  • Cons: E-Sata port on the back of motherboard will not recognize external hard drive. No 5 way optimization.

Board: good, Thermal Armor: bulky

Nolan O., Newegg
24 May 2015
  • Summary: -Had to update the board out of the box to work with my i7-4790K Flashback saved my skin on this one. -RAM was unusually hard to put in. The first time i installed it, the computer didn't post, so I went to the RAM and really had to push down on it.
  • Pros: -Lots of good IO on the back -TUF components and bracing -UEFI is easy to use -8 SATA ports -BIOS Flashback
  • Cons: -AI Suite 3 is glitchy, locks up every now again on my 8.1 rig -Thermal Armor was too bulky and in the way to install my Cooler Master T4 (parallel to the rear IO shield) -Screw holes for mounting the board to a case are behind the Thermal Armor, so you kinda have to drop the screw into the hole ...

Great board -- Except

David H., Newegg
22 May 2015
  • Pros: Great board. Great performance (I'm not a gamer) lots of I/O ports. Started with 16 GB of RAM [G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ]. Have run Fedora and now running Ubuntu 14.04 version of Linux on this machine. Running VirtualBox and several guest OS at the same time an t...
  • Cons: DIMM slot 3 is unusable. Having added another 16GB of G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM the board would no longer POST. Moving two sticks around at a time verified all the memory is good. Tried the "MemOk!" button too with all 4 sticks. No luck. Tracked the problem to DIM...

Had to fix 4 bent CPU pins very easy

HAROLD B., Newegg
13 May 2015
  • Summary: This Computer Build ASUS Sabertooth lga 1150 g-skill 8gb rapjaws CX 600w corsair psu Intel I3-4370 3.8GHZ Antec Three Hundred Two ASUS dvd burner 1 tb black western digital hard drive Samsung 120 gb SSD
  • Pros: High Quality capacitors, good quality board. Like the bios flash back option you can update bios without CPU or ram.
  • Cons: Had to remove the plastic thermal armor in order to get my ASUS GTX 670 4gb to fit snug. Had to bend 4 CPU pins on motherboard to get it to work correctly . I used a scope to make sure i got the pins bent correctly.

High end Mobo-Missing some features

Grant A., Newegg
2 May 2015
  • Summary: -It did OC int the UEFI Bios, got my 4.0 GHZ i7-4790k up to 4.6 GHZ through ASUS's XMP function. It was pretty simple (not as simple as 4-way OP but you get the idea). - You can really dive in with manual OC if you have the time and tech know-how.
  • Pros: -Looks like a tank. -Stays cool -Comes with 2 great little fans, install was easy and you can tell a lot of thought went into regulating temps. -Board does stay sturdy where as I've seen other boards bend during the install process but as long as you're careful this really shouldn't matter. -Bios...
  • Cons: -Does NOT come with 4-Way Optimization like darn near EVERY OTHER Asus high end board. Why they decided to exclude this I don't know. Yes, you can Overclock in the UEFI Bios but a one-click solution on the desktop is great for those of us that cant be asked to do it manually...and since every oth...

Good enough

Lee B., Newegg
16 February 2015
  • Summary: If you like the dust cover and noise isn't an issue for you then this is a great board.
  • Pros: A relatively nice motherboard that seems to perform well. Probably more geared to people wanting to overclock than those of us looking for a solid stock system board.
  • Cons: Some awkwardness getting it to boot a USB thumb drive at first as the BIOS does not default to enabling USB devices for boot. Took me a while to figure out how to get it to boot a USB3 stick. The tiny fans that mount in the plastic "Thermal Armor" cover create an unreasonable amount of noise. The...

Good Motherboard

Anonymous, Newegg
5 July 2014
  • Summary: Overall the motherboard very good. Great build and it stays very cool. The plastic can be annoying from time to time. The most important thing that needs to be fixed is the really loud mini fans.
  • Pros: I decided to do a review after owning the motherboard for almost a year. Overall the construction is very good, the armor does make the PCB more stable and rigid. The back aluminum plate does add cooling to it. Average system temp is around 36 C, which is pretty good. The bios is very easy to use...
  • Cons: Now here are some issues I have with it. The first issue is the on-board fans are pretty much useless and extremely noisy. I've tried adjusting profiles with the Thermal Radar and it just always seems to make a really loud whining and grinding noise. As a result, I had to unplug the fans. Just to...

Doesn't Hold Time

Lucas G., Newegg
16 June 2014
  • Pros: It runs all the hardware I need it to fine enough.
  • Cons: It doesn't hold the time, after the on-board watch battery dies. This can be easily replaced, but will need replacing once every few months.

So far so good.

Anonymous, Newegg
24 May 2014
  • Summary: I've ran exclusively Asus motherboards for 20+ years. I've never used anything else. If you know Asus, you know that the software that comes with it is bloated and for script kiddies. But you also know that motherboard failures are minimal and performance is high.
  • Pros: Runs smoothly, handles 6 hard drives and a DVD-RW, POSTed on first power on. Let me do in place upgrade (no windows 7 reinstall)
  • Cons: No firewire header, no thunderbolt support out of the box - need $70 card. Plastics can be annoying.
