Summary: After getting on our hands filled with a seemingly endless wave of RoG Maximus motherboards the past few months, we finally had something different to play with in the month of November as ASUS finally passed us their Sabertooth Z87 motherboard to review.
Pros: Good performance, Thermal Armor, Thermal Radar, Lots of overclocking headroom
Conclusion: We’ve taken quite an extensive look at everything the ASUS Sabertooth Z87 motherboard has to offer and I have to say it is a very impressive motherboard. While the durability and reliability aspect isn’t something you can really benchmark the sturdy construction, high quality components and...
Pros: Clean Aesthetics, Extensive thermal controls and customisation, Abundant SATA and USB connectivity, Rigid and Sturdy Design, High Quality components, Well fleshed out software package, Great accessory package, High Performance Z87 motherboard, Solid Overclocker, 5 Year Warranty, Excellent UEFI BIOS
Cons: Lack of Wireless connectivity, Thermal Armour may obstruct some larger CPU heatsinks, Bit pricey, 35mm motherboard fans can get noisy if not forced to a low RPM, Some may find the Thermal Armour a bit “gimmicky”, Only one USB 3.0 header
Summary: Final Thoughts
ASUS’s Sabertooth and “TUF” series motherboards have been around for awhile now and ASUS could have gone the easy and cheap route of just slapping the thermal armor on a motherboard and calling it a Sabertooth motherboard.
Pros: – Built with quality components, – Components go through many reliability tests, – TUF Armor and TUF Fortifier, – 5 year warranty, – Thermal Radar 2 and 3 extra thermal probes
Cons: – No overclocking software built into Ai Suite III, – Not as many features as other ASUS boards
Summary: The motherboard we are examining today is part of the ASUS "TUF" series which is an acronym for "The Ultimate Force." The Sabertooth Z87 looks like a promising follow up to the Sabertooth Z77 and given the Sabertooth pedigree, our expectations are high for this entry into the series which sets...
Conclusion: Asus has jumped on top of the Z87 chipset and gone heavy with all manner of motherboards, including regular, Republic of Gamers and TUF models. The transition between chipset generations has enabled the manufacturing giant to subtly update the Sabertooth model while not inflating the price.
Summary: ASUS has a very sweet offering at hand with the Z87 based Sabertooth motherboard. Opposed to our other reviews from MSI and Gigabyte, this board is more price savvy, and you can see why ... no extra KillerNIC, WIFI, WIFI, buttons, Diagnostic LEDS and so on.
