ASUS Sabertooth 55i P55 Chipset Motherboard Review

[H] Enthusiast
9 December 2010
  • Summary: From a stock perspective, ASUS has a great board on their hands with the Sabertooth 55i. The board sports a clean and well thought out layout and design, with a military style tan and black color scheme that works very well for the board. While the integrated device list is not quite in line with a lot of the other boards on the market currently, the Sabertooth 55i tries to fill the gap with designed-in stability and performance enhancements.

ASUS TUF SaberTooth 55i

5 March 2010
  • Conclusion: From the Sabertooth’s layout to its rather unique subtle coloring scheme, it adds another notch to ASUS’s definition of quality and functionality. I personally liked on how ASUS laid out this motherboard because it gives me the ability to use a PCI expansion card and also use 2 PCI-E x1 expansion cards with considerable ease while at the same time being able to use two video cards in a multi GPU configuration.

  • Conclusion: With integrated memory controllers and now integrated PCIe graphics controllers for the Intel P55 Express chipset, there are fewer areas with each passing generation where vendors can differentiate their products. After all, there's only so much one can do to optimize the performance when it's become so dependent on the processor. It then becomes a matter of having a good layout and enhancing the feature set.

Asus Sabertooth 55i TUF P55 Motherboard

18 November 2009
  • Conclusion: When I first heard about the new TUF series, I expected the motherboard to be a stripped down, essentials only piece of equipment aimed squarely at the performance enthusiast. While the motherboard has the performance features it doesn't sing the same tune. Sure it is no slouch but for all the phase switching and ceramic coated heatsinks, the maximum overclock I managed was 4.4GHz.
  • Pros: Great Performance, Odd but somehow good looking, Excellent packaging, Innovative cooling
  • Cons: No onboard CMOS clear button. Unacceptable for a performance motherboard at this price., Odd overclocking results with 24x multiplier
