Summary: Bar non loved the board. But the northbridge throws off enormous amounts of heat! What went wrong? Not sure but I had top purchase a northbridge fan from a different series of board and had it on 100% speed. I replaced the cooling pads with artic silver 5 and it only brought it down about 5 degree's, still hit 70 degree's celcius! 24gb of ram crippled it so I had to revert back to 8gb for a while. Otherwise performance was ok when the northbridge was below 60.
Summary: Pros: No other MicroATX comes close in the number of features this board offers not to mention it's one of the best looking motherboards I've ever seen. Smoking fast when it works. Cons: Random 0x3D BSOD on this board sporadically, which according to Microsoft is very "rare". My older quadcore9550 has been running Windows 7 without a bluescreen for over a year at least!
Excerpt: USB 3., SATA 6, SLI or Crossfix, X58 chipset, triple channel RAM assistance* (also a con, see beneath), BIOS tweeker (one of the finest I've noticed, literally set about any timing). Also has a reset button on board to stay away from pulling the CMOS battery after a terrible BIOS setting is created. Biggest con by far is that this board has troubles with triple channel memory.
Excerpt: somewhat operates. OC fine if the RAMs perform. RAM detection and stability concern. I have Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 Ɠ x 2G) RAM which the manual says supported. The XMP profile does not perform with the board. It boots fine, but run Prime95 - blue screen. Manually setting the RAM to 9-9-9-24 with 1600 - run Prime95 - bluescreen.Following cold reboot, only 4 GB are detected. For some reason, it seems to detect 6 GB 90% time when set to 1066 MHz with auto detection.
Excerpt: This board has every thing I wanted and I lovedthe style and layout. If you have a windowed case youd appreciate the colour scheme and heat snyc art. The Asus tech support is speedy and straight to the point, and as generally the good consumer service you count on from newegg. Simple basically return with preprinted UPS slip. This board had the notorious CPU QLED which fundamentally is a error light for a element if you cant boot.
Excerpt: Great packaging Won't boot. No way to troubleshoot with no the beeping speaker. And my case does not come with 1. Now I have to come across a single C'mon ASUS, for sheer of value of 200+, you can't spare a .98 speakers!? I have no issue paying for .98c speakers, but it goes to the inconvenience of obtaining hunt down a M/B speakers.
Excerpt: Nice speedy board with lots of tweaking functions. The capability to run a USB cable from this motherboard to a different Pc/laptop and monitor temperatures and frequencies is handy. The SATA ports are not only mounted parallel to the board, they're also on the edge of the board. I'm confident some builders choose it this way, and I'm certain there are benefits to undertaking it this way...but beware, as this can make the ports very hard to access.
