ASUS Rampage Extreme motherboard review

Elite Bastards
9 November 2008
  • Conclusion: It seems like every time we have a Republic of Gamers motherboard land in our review dungeon, we end up lavishing praise upon it, and to be honest it's always hard to find anything to criticise about these parts.  Hardware aimed at enthusiasts is ten a penny these days, but ASUS' motherboard offerings along these lines always seem to get it right by choosing the right features to offer up without piling on unnecessary items just to add to the list of marketing...

Asus Rampage Extreme (X48) Motherboard

CPU3D
2 August 2008
  • Summary: Asus have produced an almost perfect motherboard. In terms of out of the box performance the Rampage Extreme is in excellent shape. The package is bundled with a collection of accessories that goes some way towards the relatively high retail price. Most people will probably be put off by this, especially when you factor in the cost of DDR3 RAM over DDR2.
  • Pros: - Intel X48 Chipset, - DDR3 RAM ready, - Excellent design, - Plenty of connectivity, - High quality components, - Faultless layout
  • Cons: - Hot North Bridge, - Costly DDR3 RAM, - Price

ASUS Rampage Extreme

Legion Hardware

  • Summary: The list of features that can be found on the Rampage Extreme is immense, and literally just goes on and on. Some features really stood out, like the modular cooling, giving the user the choice between a water-cooled or passively cooled setup. The taller oversized heatsinks are an excellent idea and to avoid any compatibility problems ASUS has also included more standard shorter versions of these heatsinks.

ASUS Rampage Extreme X48 Motherboard Review

Hardware Canucks
28 November 2008
  • Conclusion: The high end motherboard market is becoming a very interesting battle ground. With prices of these motherboards seeming to find no limit, the features they offer has increased to epic proportions. That never ending list of features has hit a crescendo with the ASUS Rampage Extreme. Not only has ASUS presented arguably the best Intel X48 based motherboard to the market, but they may just have produced the finest motherboard the enthusiast world has seen to date.
  • Pros: Features, features and more features like TweakIt, twin BIOS, Fusion Block System, etc..., A very esthetically pleasing motherboard and divine layout, Typical ASUS build quality and depth of BIOS options, Just as fine a daily driver as it is a track car, even when extremely cold, All the benefits of the Intel X48 chipset with no compromises
  • Cons: The high frequency memory clocking is causing issues for some users, us included, One of the most, if not the most, expensive consumer motherboards available, BIOS development seems to be slow for such a marquee piece of hardware

  • Conclusion: The motherboard also supports Asus's EPU energy saving function in case you need it. In addition, the mainboard offers tons of pin headers to add rotating fans and the TweakIT functions are fun to work with although we prefer using the BIOS interface for out tweaks Since the motherboard supports 2x 16x PCI-e v2.0 lanes, you can fully perform CrossFireX with a latest graphics card by AMD.

  • Cons: Bardzo wysoka cena, Dyskusyjna wydajność kontrolera SIL5723

ASUS Rampage Extreme, DFI LP UT X48-T3RS, ECS X48T-A, Foxconn BlackOps, MSI X48 Platinum – pięć płyt z układem Intel X48

  • Conclusion: Wszystkie testowane płyty udowodniły, że wysoka cena przekłada się na wysoką jakość. Producenci walczą o klienta nie tylko samym wykonaniem, ale też dodatkami – mniej lub bardziej niezbędnymi. Czytając marketingowe opisy wyrobów z najwyższej półki, można odnieść wrażenie, że nafaszerowane „inteligentnymi” rozwiązaniami płyty główne powinny przynajmniej same instalować system operacyjny i niezbędne aplikacje. Niestety, do jeszcze daleka droga.
