Summary: ASUS used to be the go to product, partly because of their great support. With many different manufacturers in the market now making comparable products, it is not longer worth the premium to buy their products with the total lack of customer support after the fact.
Pros: 4 way SLI at x16, supports Xeon and ECC.
Cons: Bought this board from Newegg 2 years ago. First board arrived DOA. Newegg replaced without question. Second board worked great for just over two years. One day I turn the machine on, hear a rapid fizz and then a flash of light and smoke from the case. Can see the burnt tracing at the edge of the...
Summary: 6 months of 5 days weekly use, audio died, can't get any audio anywhere on the mobo opticals or the front panel anymore. Just happened out of nowhere, no warning, no nothing. USB bypass works (shure digital microphone with a headphone jack gives me a plug for audio, bypasses Realtek etc.).
Summary: This is my first motherboard failure. I have built a few other systems with MSI/Gigabyte hardware without any problems and they are all older and still running strong. No sound output through any input optical jacks on the board, no sound from front plugs. This just happened yesterday.
Summary: Works out of the box with 4930. But it doesn't have USB3 connector. Like really? It's 2014 outside. What's worse is that the motherboard has traces and soldering pads for the USB3 connector but not the actual connector, clearly trying to upsell to Deluxe or Pro versions.
Summary: My Build: ASUS P9X79LE mobo, Geforce GT 640 graphics, i7-3820 processor, 2x8gb Corsair Vengance RAM, Antec Neo HE50 power supply
Pros: It was great while it worked, I used it for 3D modeling and rendering and had no problems or lag. And there's plenty of room to expand on RAM/peripheral cards
Cons: The computer one day decided to stop booting. The DRAM_LED went on one day during boot, and now the computer doesn't even get to bios. I replaced the ram, took the whole thing apart, tried booting with minimal build and then slowly building up, but it only ever gets to the DRAM_LED and stops ther...
Summary: Dead on arrival. Seems like a nice motherboard, but after putting everything together, the computer starts for at most 5 seconds then shuts off without displaying anything at all. Checked to see if it was the RAM and tested it each of the RAM sockets, but got the same result.
Summary: First RMA was through new egg. Bad idea. ASUS will cross-ship which means I don't have to repack motherboard with all the goodies, and I can use system while waiting for replacement.
Pros: Board seems to be working fine except its not able to power down from windows. must manually shut off power with power switch on PSU.
Cons: First board worked about 10 days before audio stopped working. This is replacement for first board, and it is not able to power down. Specifically, from win7 shutdown or sleep, at the point where you expect power off, the system and cpu fans ramp up to full speed. Waited 15 min and fans still on....
