Poor layout Bios had glitches

Elliott C., Newegg
11 June 2014
  • Summary: Basically a sound board although The PCIex slots for SLI are 1 and 4 not the preferred one and 3 and the bottom external USB connectors and support for switches are covered by the second GPU requiring special bent connectors on any double wide GPU. All boards are becoming unreliable.
  • Pros: Supports Ivy Bridge, Multitude of sata 6, usb3, built in wifi plenty of ram slots.
  • Cons: Bios not stable latest 701 bios offers greater stability but throttles CPU by far to much unless puty into Asus optimal performance mode. Then wont go into sleep mode automatically.

Works very well, but 2 bad memory slots

John H., Newegg
8 July 2013
  • Pros: Has lots of features & is easy to set up. Very smooth operation.
  • Cons: Mine has 2 bad Memory slots so board only sees 16 gig of 32 gig in memory. Waiting for Asus to get back to me about this problem.

BT Go

Michael S., Newegg
6 March 2013
  • Summary: BT GO really blows and doesn't work and should not factor into your decision to buy this MB
  • Pros: 8 Memory slots
  • Cons: I don't want a very elaborate review, this is a great board. But I am very dissapointed in the person who has been assigned to my support case. BT GO does not work with Windows 8. The person who has been trying to get this to work for me replies in short 2 sentence requests only once a day if I'm...

PCI 3.0 "SUPPORTED"!!!

Anthony S., Newegg
1 November 2012
  • Summary: The only problem I am having is that I BSOD every time I try to wake from sleep. It seems that the cause is nvlddmkm.sys from the Nvidia drivers. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling numerous versions and BETAs the problem persists. Asus tech support has not been very helpful.
  • Pros: The board was easy enough to install. After plugging everything in and updating the BIOS I was able to POST with no problems.
  • Cons: One of the reasons I decided to build a new machine was because I couold get PCI 3.0 and have some future proofing. Well after getting everything togeather I come to find out that x79 does not natively support PCI 3.0 and that this motherboard only upclocks the PCI slots. I also bought an ASUS GT...

Powerful but poorly supported

Anonymous, Newegg
27 August 2012
  • Summary: If you are building a system that is going to use this motherboard, please validate that your build will work by posting on one of the tom's hardware or ASUS forums for this board. This board is extremely picky and challenging to configure for Windows.
  • Pros: Supports 3 way SLI / Crossfire, has the X79 chipset, SSD caching, USB 3.0, overclocking, UEFI Bios, Bluetooth + wireless, and host of other features.
  • Cons: The SATA ports are located right across from the primary graphics card slot. This means that if you have a longer graphics card (pretty much any modern model), getting to the SATA slots is challenging without removing the graphics card first. If you are doing 2x Crossfire, please understand you w...

Problem Detailed

Michael S., Newegg
30 July 2012
  • Summary: b) Often forget to show ANY content in Windows Explorer even with a disk in, c) Leave contents showing active in Windows Explorer with the disk removed, &, d) Frequently throw up audio tracks when the closest thing to an audio track was my car radio in the garage!
  • Pros: Follow up to my 7/14/2012 review; same board.
  • Cons: My prior Newegg User Review didn't touch on nearly all of the "little" quirks I ran into. What would you think of a build where the DVD/CD RW drive acted downright funky? In this day and age? I thought optical drives were "automatic"; not with this board! I spent two days tracking down the culpri...

Great motherboard, but quality control seems shotty

Jeff Booth, Amazon
13 March 2012
  • Summary: The motherboard itself is great. I love the features, the built in wi-fi and the UEFI bios. There's nothing wrong with the product itself. Before purchasing I read a ton of reviews on Newegg, Amazon and elsewhere and saw that many people were having problems with the motherboard being completely...

Fast board, but hard to work with.

George D Buhr Jr, Amazon
27 January 2012
  • Summary: I dont build alot of PC's and mostly rely on other peoples reviews and suggestions when picking boards. I picked this board because of the stellar review on Maximum PC's site, and it seemed like the latest and greatest, liked the bluetooth and wifi integration, and usb 3.0, as well as some of the...

OK, USB not so good

ScottP, Amazon
27 January 2012
  • Summary: Got one of these about 4 months ago for my gaming rig. I have another PC for work with an older x58 MB. This is a good board, with plenty of options to tweak the CPU and RAM, but USB 3.0 support is not working for me with Windows 7. Only supports USB 2.0.

Good motherboard with some issues

Luis Felipe, Amazon
27 January 2012
  • Summary: I built recently a system using this motherboard. I haven't had issues with the dimms like many other people do, but the issues I currently have are regarding the USB 3.0 ports. This board uses the Asmedia 1042 and VL810 chipsets for it's USB 3.0 ports, right now both chipsets have many problems, a...
