Pros: The board looks great, and the features are what I needed for a small business server.
Cons: The board was DOA, got the system built and everything ready to go. I tried to start it up and I get 4 short beeps with no boot or video. After looking around on the internet I found very little support on the topic. The only useful information I found was that the 4 short beeps stood for:
Summary: Computer specs. I need to get this server online asap, however, my success looks like a bad dream.
Pros: Features sound good
Cons: This motherboard keeps giving me four beeps without video. I have read all the knowledge bases, forums, and tech sites without any success.. There seems to be all kind of problems with this motherboard. I don't plan on purchasing any more Asus products in the near future due to quality and the lack of troubleshooting info. I have spent the last four days troubleshooting this motherboard without any success. My friend has a Tyan motherboard that had no problems booting...
Cons: powered off during BIOS backup. Tore it down and rebuilt - board now POSTs without any error beeps - however no video whatsoever - either onboard or via HDMI/ATI card. Stripped out all components except necessities - tested all DIMMS - no video whatsoever. Clearly, this is not one of ASUS's better boards. I have been using ASUS boards for 15 years - this on is best avoided. Will get the SuperMicro MicroATX C204 board instead.
Cons: Since getting this board I have had nothing but problems I now I am getting 4 beeps I have tried diffrent ram and everything now Im figuring out that it's my bios not being up to date this is my second motherboard I have tried with the Xeon 1230 V2 and I Have ran into the same problem newegg and asus should be sending out updated bios chips
Summary: Works with intel e3-1230v2 out of the box. No bios update needed. Got it in August 2012. Put in Kingston 4x8gb (KVR13E9/8HM) in a Silverstone Tek PS07B case. Need the ASUS ASMB5-iKVM for remote management with vmware esxi 5, an extra $60-$70. I installed it an works good but extra. Also with out it you won't be able to see the esxi health monitor, fan speed, etc. Working with vmware esxi 5 but your going to need a hardware raid card if you want to raid.
Summary: After spending almost two weeks trouble shooting this thing,it turns out that it's a flaw in the boards. Tech support was great about getting me an advanced replacement, but it had the same problem also which sends you off in a complete different direction when testing. The problem is that it would do a sudden power reset whenever it felt like it. But only about once or twice a day. It turns out that I can't plug in any wireless devices like mice or keyboards.
Pros: Asus says they will ship out a new bios chip. Lets hope I get it asap.
Cons: Won't post. Specs said it's compatible with 1600 memory and v2 xeon processor, but according to serial # here it says my bios is too old for these items. Can't update it because it wont even post.
Summary: Terrible motherboard. Booted, but mine arrived with the famous Asus "chassis intrusion error" which halts the system at boot and prevents you from entering the BIOS. Sometimes this is a loose jumper and clearing the CMOS helps. Unfortunately mine is motherboard defect like many others. Asus support is equally as bad and they make you jump through hoops hoping you'll just give up, even when they know the problem is a well-known issue.
Cons: Integrated RAID not supported by ESXi, but that's hardly unexpected. Trouble with shorts in the fab process? -- see Other Thoughts. Also, the BIOS is a little weird -- e.g. you can't designate to boot off USB until you have a USB storage device plugged in. Could use more USB headers or built-in ports.
Cons: Unit arrived DOA, it won't power up. The Diagnostic LED on the MOBO lights up green which shows it is getting sufficient power from the PSU and I've tested the power switch and have attempted a manual boot by jumping the pins for the power - NOTHING. This is DEAD!
