6 years of excellence

Anonymous, Newegg
  • Summary: On-board OS blew me away when I fired it up the first time. It was basic, but I could have gone online, played simple games, pretty much ran it as a pc without ever installing an OS. Super impressive.
  • Pros: Honestly, I don't know what to say. I've had this mobo for 6 years now and it's still running in tip top shape.
  • Cons: Chip architecture change means I can't upgrade the processor the way I want to.

Great board!

THOMAS D., Newegg

  • Summary: Been using this board since 2010 with an I7 920. Just upgraded the cpu to a Xeon W3690. The W3690 is pretty much the same as an I7 990x but with more features. Make sure to update your bios to version 1501 if you plan on trying this.
  • Pros: Reliable, good support, lots of features, supports more processors that are listed.
  • Cons: None!

Still going strong!

  • Summary: Hard to think of anything I had problems with after building this board into my CM HAF932 case. Looks sharp and works like it should.
  • Pros: Been using it everyday for multitasking and some gaming too. Almost runs 24 hours a day and just keeps asking what else to do! AHCI is working great with my Mushkin SSD (Windows Experience Rating shows it at 7.7 rating out of 7.9!) Love this board!
  • Cons: None.

Victor V., Newegg

  • Summary: Great motherboard overall, cannot complain. Don't use RAID so I'm okay with the controller being worse than the other board. Running an i7 960 on it and it works amazingly fast and successfully. Recommended.
  • Pros: Excellent Look Express Gate access before OS boot Plenty of ports Fast More than enough Features
  • Cons: Pricey RAID is better on sister board (P6X58D-E)

Very Nice

GINGER D., Newegg
5 September 2011
  • Pros: Very stable, very fast and has both USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps. It also happens to be one of the select few motherboards compatible with Blackmagic Design's Intensity Shuttle. The stability and performance off this board were the main selling points for me (beyond the feature set I was looking for).
  • Cons: PCIe lanes are not 16x-16x-16x, but full 16x is available for 2 video cards (16x-16x-1x).

User Review

  • Summary: Great board!
  • Pros: This is an excellent board, I specifically picked it to support an SSD drive. I have had it working for six months now using the marvell controller. My Crucial C300 drive posted a 352.1 MB read on Crystal disk mark to contrast my Western digital velociRapter WD3000 10,000 rpm drive posted a 88.89...
  • Cons: Channel 1 on the 6gb SATA did not recognize the SSD drive which caused some head ache and I used channel 2 which did work, you only need one!

15 Month Review

Nicholas G., Newegg
16 May 2011
  • Summary: PCIE SSD technology is still not supported by this motherboard, even with ASUS' latest firmware update. Many, many people are having issues with PCIE SSD cards on this board and this is pretty disappointing.
  • Pros: Now that I've owned this board for more than a year, I wanted to post a follow-up to my original "out of box" experience. While this board is not without its flaws, it's easily the best motherboard I've ever owned (even after the cons below). Cooling throughout the board is passive, which means t...
  • Cons: I bought this board because of USB 3.0 and SATA 6. Unfortunately, at the time I didn't realize that SATA 6 is useless for platter drives. Those drives haven't been saturating the SATA pipe since the inception of SATA. I don't have the ability to put USB 3.0 as a front panel connector. The only pa...
