ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution X48 ATX Motherboard

big bruin
17 June 2008
  • Summary: In the end the P5E64 WS Evolution X48 ATX motherboard wound up being just about what I had hoped it would be... A high end motherboard equally well suited for serving in a workstation and a gaming rig. With all of the performance features, its slick styling, and the ample bundle of accessories, it is almost like someone at ASUS paid close attention to their market research!
  • Pros: » Well suited for workstation or gaming duty, » Four x16 PCI Express slots, » Supports high speed DDR3 (2000MHz listed in BIOS), » BIOS allows for fine adjustment of all features of interest to enthusiasts, » EPU and other green features can save you some green, » Solid bundle of accessories, » Attractive color scheme, » Well laid out
  • Cons: » Using EPU eliminates any BIOS tweaking (as in overclocking or using XMP profiles), » With XMP capable memory, BIOS defaults to XMP settings even in auto mode, » Be aware that although there are four x16 PCI Express, two are electrically x4, » Premium features comes with a premium price

Testing Intel's X48 chipset: ASUS P5E3 Premium WiFi

TechSpot
7 March 2008
  • Conclusion: Although features such as Express Gate, BlackHawk audio, and Wireless 802.11n support might not be everyone's cup of tea, they are still very unique characteristics and should you require any or most of them, then it becomes quite handy to have under the same umbrella. All of these were also found on the ASUS P5E3 Premium WiFi-AP @n, so what else does this new motherboard have to offer?

Silent PC
9 December 2007
  • Summary: Asus has produced a compelling product with the P5E-VM HDMI. The Intel chipsets provide a huge range of features and an improved graphics engine. Asus built upon those strengths by implementing solid-state capacitors, an admirable fan control system, and a wide-open BIOS that makes the board a surprisingly good overclocker. This last capability really separates it from the rest of the pack.
  • Pros: Long list of features, Multiple video and audio outputs, Superb high definition playback, Solid-state capacitors, Good fan control, Overclocks suprisingly well
  • Cons: Undervolting is limited, Higher power consumption compared to the G33 chipset, Price

ASUS P5E3-Deluxe/WiFi-AP@n X38 Motherboard

APH Networks
27 October 2007
  • Conclusion: The Asus P5E3-Deluxe uses the same sound codec as the Asus P5W64-WS Professional , Asus P5K3-Deluxe , and the Asus P5K-Deluxe -- the ADI SoundMAX 1988B audio codec. The analog performance is quite acceptable for regular usage, but for headphones the SNR is definitely not the best. Compared to the X-Fi XtremeMusic, it sounds 'thinner' -- even with equalizer optimizations, the bass comes in less natural and not very solid/strong.

  • Excerpt: DDR3 has now started to make its presence felt in the retail market and DDR3 modules for all the major players are starting to show up. DDR2 was criticised for its latency issues as well as its inability to beat DDR at clock for clock speeds. While this may be the case there is one thing to remember, DDR2-800 and DDR3-800 should perform almost identical due to the fact that they are running the same speed, just different technologies.
