ASUS Maximus III Gene motherboard review

Elite Bastards
25 March 2012
  • Conclusion: As I alluded to in our introduction, on a personal level I'm really quite excited by the resurgence of the micro-ATX platform in terms of the availability of decent motherboards (although admittedly I still wish there were more top quality micro-ATX chassis out there) - As someone who hungers for performance and the latest kit but also finds himself with a severe lack of desk space, a system built around this smaller platform has the potential to be a perfect balance for...

ASUS Maximus III Gene P55

15 January 2011
  • Summary: Summing it all up proves very easy, as there is no question which board is both the better performer, as well as the better overclocker. I remain so impressed with the Maximus III Gene that it will become my main motherboard, without a doubt. All the included features packed into such a small package didn't detract from the board's ability, and it truly shocked me how everything worked so well together.
  • Pros: High overclockability, Properly built to maintain high overclocks through long-term daily usage, Modest pricing, Fully featured, even more so than some full-sized ATX boards., Excellent XMP support, even with fully populated memory slots., MOSFET cooling built to not interfere with large aftermarket coolers, yet maintains excellent temperatures., Easy to use BIOS with loads of options
  • Cons: High "Auto" voltage settings., Lack of memory timing control in included software, Thermal probes needed to take full advantage of fan control are not included, Small form factor may mean it is overlooked by many.

[H] Enthusiast
26 January 2010
  • Summary: Simply put, I really enjoyed working with this board. I'm not generally a huge fan of the smaller boards, but I have to say this board impressed me from start to finish. Everything worked flawlessly and easily. From the unboxing to setting up the system to OS installation were all a breeze. It was as perfect a computing experience as I can remember. Usually boards have a quirk here or there, but this wasn't the case with the Maximus III Gene.

  • Conclusion: Through out testing we can see that most P55 motherboards will performa almost identical with one another. With a few exceptions, which we have to ask ourselves, what separates one motherboard from another? The answer is features and capabilities, and or layout. This is where the Maximus III GENE has loads of, features and capabilities (layout is a standard micro ATX).

Asus Maximus III Gene
