Summary: It is installed on my computer - the one I'm using to type this review - so, I assume it is working great. I'm not a techie. My computer guru told me to order it, so he could use it to build this new computer, so I did. I only gave 4 stars, because I don't know enough about it to feel good about ranking it higher.
Summary: Dead on arrival. This is the first time in eighteen years of building a lot of computers with different brands of motherboards that I got a dead one. I sent the thing back to Amazon for an exchange for the exact same one, so we will see how it preforms IF the new board can post to the BIOS. All the guys at ASUS tech support seem to be handicapped with English as a second, third or fourth language, so it was hard to communicate just what was happening with this turkey.
Summary: This may be in part due to the 6+2+2 power phase on this board. The VRM and northbridge heatsinks are always scalding hot to the touch. Thats why if you have the money you should go with the Sabertooth or Crosshair IV formula which can spread the power delivery out across more power phases and give you a cooler running board in general.
Pros: I've had a really good experience with the board the past couple weeks that I've owned it. My 8350 and this board play marvelously together. I have my CPU overclocked to 4.7ghz on 1.43v and it is rock stable. With LLC set to very high I get incredibly consistent voltages under load. Even if there is a crash it recovers immediately without any odd behaviors like I used to see on my previous Asrock 970 extreme4.
Cons: Man does the socket run insanely hot on this board.. and I don't think im the only one to experience this. I had to slip a Scythe slim 120mm fan behind my motherboard tray to blow directly onto the socket because my load socket temps were getting up to 77c+ and throttling the cpu down to 1.4ghz. Even though the core temps weren't even cracking 50c with my NZXT Kraken X60. Putting the fan back there lowered socket temps about 15c+ and now it tops out at 64c (Max socket...
Summary: Built my system on june 11th and still works today. One of the screw holes was slightly off alinement and had to leave it out.I thought i would damage it as i didn't have an anti-static wrist strap but i meticulously hold it at the edges and used the ani static bag that it came in. I paired this with an AMD 6300 and it was just the right prices instead of havin to pay more money for an I5 wich i would not need so much power.
Summary: At first, I was having some trouble with the GUI BIOS locking up. However, with some time, it's all working good now. I flashed with the latest BIOS, and loving it! I can't wait to max out the RAM and play with it. Does the job, and does it very well. 5 Stars and well worth it.
Summary: Just wanted to state that this motherboard has been verified to work well with Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS). Also USB booting is well implemented..which is becoming more common, but just wanted to state it. Overall very pleased with the performance of the system. Installed with an AMD FX 8350 8-core processor.
