Almost Superb

Brian D., Newegg
6 January 2013
  • Summary: It would be great if it worked, as this is supposed to be a mobo for an HTPC that should be silent for showing movies/listening to audio in a QUIET room. Not happening if this is the case. Gonna go find something else by another company soon. Sick of this.
  • Pros: Boots, posts all that. No problems AFAIK. Installed Linux on HDD without a hiccup.
  • Cons: Whenever I move the mouse or type on a keyboard (via USB), the mobo makes an electrical cranking sound. Changed out power supply, processor, RAM, SSD, everything but the mobo. RMA'd the board due to this and it came back with nothing having been done to it. Apparently, they just turn it on, make ...

Asus poor intergration

Daniel T., Newegg
22 March 2012
  • Summary: The poorly integrated design shows what happens when company like, Asus no long make it own products, and most likely no longer designs them as well. Why buy a product (motherboard, PC, Laptop, etc..) banded by Asus but made by ECS. If I wanted ESC product then I would have bought one label ECS.
  • Pros: AMD Fusion FM1 - great CPU/Graphic for the money.
  • Cons: Price for poorly integrated design. Built-in Bluetooth is on the wrong USB hub channel - will not connect (will see and config. only) to device. Need a second Bluetooth (dedicated) for remote. Could not get all functions to work on remote.

HTPC? Maybe not

Joseph B., Newegg
17 March 2012
  • Summary: Additional problems (no room above): The motherboard will not wake when put to sleep with a media center remote. I've turned on WOL and WoPME but I've been unsuccessful in waking the machine. Waking on USB does not appear to be possible with this board.
  • Pros: The board works well and was easy to set up, the UEFI bios looks good
  • Cons: Where to begin.. The remote, which I was hoping to use with my HTPC is apparently useless with Windows Media Center for the most part. Some of the functions will work in it, but it specifically says in the remote's manual that its not for MCE. In addition, the range of the remote is extremely poo...

Lots of extras with one issue

Mike F., Newegg
18 February 2012
  • Summary: Loses two eggs because of the memory problem. Hope a fix will be issued by Asus
  • Pros: Built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • Cons: Driver instalation disk is unreadable and the memory is unstable. Used DDR3 1600 dual channel 2x2GB recomended by Asus and updated the BIOS. With one stick installed it is fine. Add both and it will hang and crash. Tried two different sets of memory.

So-So

James L., Newegg
7 January 2012
  • Summary: If you must have an ITX for AMD with onboard video this is probably what you want to buy. I overclocked the 6570 card and got nearly the same benchmarks as I got with the crossfire working on the Asrock board. Maybe I should have got the AM3 socket.
  • Pros: Solid well made little board. Much better than the Asrock board that got very hot and died after 2 days.
  • Cons: Dual graphics will not work with this board as far as I can tell. The video card and the A3850 processor worked fine in crossfire on the Asrock board. I can get it to work for one boot after installing the 6570 card on this board and then the on chip gpu is not seen by the driver on the next boot...

User Review

Jim D., Newegg
31 December 2011
  • Summary: Because of the tech support, and the bad CPU placement, I give only 3 stars. This product should have a usable expansion slot, or Asus should provide a low profile heatsink which works. I have an A8 in a small case, and BTW cooling is problematic when all 4 cores go to rated clock.
  • Pros: It has not crashed for any reason other than over/under clocking/volting. It is good to have a stable motherboard. I have another Asus MB that hangs often in W7/64, and I just live with it. I thought it was W7, but this one does not do it. Having a stable MB is a very good thing!
  • Cons: Take note! The expansion slot is too close to the CPU. My low profile cooler overlaps this slot, making it unusable. To get this small board in a small (low vertical clearance) case, you must search out a low-profile HS. Mine is 40 mm high, and it just fits in my case. This means it will be wide,...

If you don't use the HDMI output, you'll probably be happy with this board.

D. Brown, Amazon
30 November 2011
  • Summary: I have the latest firmware, and I know how to reset the BIOS and whatnot. I use an A8-3800 processor. Overall the board is fine, but it's really annoying that it malfunctions when used with an HDMI monitor. In my experience, the system hangs randomly during POST when connected to HDMI only.

No Overclocking.

sterling p., Newegg
4 November 2011
  • Summary: I really hope asus updates this bios
  • Pros: ...
  • Cons: I cannot get this thing to overclock more than about 3-5% The bios seems to lack the needed dividers (they won't auto kick in at any point between 100-200MHz bus). so it overclocks the sata/usb and you won't be able to boot an OS A8-3850 above 3GHz is impossible with this board. Worst overclockin...
