ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z Review: Cream of the Crop for AM3+

PC Perspective
17 March 2013
  • Excerpt: Over the past several years I have reviewed quite a few Asus products.  The ones that typically grab my attention are the ROG based units.  These are usually the most interesting, over the top, and expensive products in their respective fields.  Ryan has reviewed the ROG graphics cards, and they have rarely disappointed.  I have typically taken a look at the Crosshair series of boards that support AMD CPUs.

Asus Crosshair V Formula Motherboard

  • Summary: It is no mystery that Republic of Gamers motherboards are designed with the sole intent to be used, and abused, by hardware enthusiasts.  Prior to this review we have looked at three other Asus ROG motherboards, the Rampage III Extreme Maximus IV Extreme and Maximus IV Gene-Z .  While all of these boards share similar branding that aren't all designed alike.
  • Pros: Great motherboard styling, Bulldozer Core AMD Support, 3-Way Crossfire, 3-Way SLI, Decent Motherboard Cooling, Support for 4 Video Cards, USB 3.0 Onboard
  • Cons: Had issues with high HT clocking, No bulldozer to test with, (yet)

ASUS Crosshair V Formula AMD AM3+ Motherboard Review

  • Summary: ASUS seems to have another award winning ROG-based board on their hands in the Crosshair V Formula. The board layout and design is straight-forward, with some nice touches in the placement of the Northbridge chipset and the use of the Intel GigE NIC. Aside from its functionality, the board has style and would look great in any case with its black and red theme. Overclocking-wise, this board is a beast with my only gripe being the inability to push the CPU further.

ASUS Crosshair V Formula Motherboard Review

23 August 2011
  • Conclusion: The Crosshair V Formula is one stellar motherboard. There is nothing this board can’t do. Well, I’m sure there is but do you need it to? The stout power section will help push your clocks to the max. The cooling solution does its job well. Performance is precisely on par with its predecessor as you’d expect from essentially the same chipset. It even looks good, in my opinion improving on the Crosshair IV’s looks greatly. Now, please excuse a slight tangent.

  • Summary: Like any of the other AMD 990FX based motherboard reviews allow me to split up this conclusion into two segments, the AMD chipset and the ASUS motherboard. We'll start off with the chipset. To be totally honest I expected more features and innovation in the 99FX chipset, pretty much this a petit overhaul of the 890FX chipset with very subtle yet small changes.
