ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme: Running SLI With the Lucid Hydra Chip
10 January 2011
Conclusion: When we first reviewed the ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme, we had our reservations about the Hydra CrossLinX 3 due to the fact that we did not have the right cards to fully test its capability. Now, armed with two GTX 470s, we can test the SLI performance on the ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme via the Hydra chip.
Excerpt: One of the unfortunate consequences of AMD's inability to match Intel's performance at the ultra high-end of the CPU market over the past few years is that there's been a substantial decline in the number of high-end AMD motherboards. NewEgg presently stocks just two AMD motherboards in the $200-$300 price range compared to 36 Intel products.
Pros: Good performance, Excellent features, USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s, Great audio
Cons: LucidLogix support a work in progress, Certain features may appeal only to niche audience
Excerpt: What do you give a board that already has everything? Apparently a Lucid HydraLogix chip. Asus loves to release high end motherboards with more features packed in than anyone else. Their ROG based boards are typically a step above the rest when it comes to features, overclocking, and a coolness factor dressed in reds and blacks. Previously I have reviewed the little brother of the Extreme, which is the Crosshair IV Formula. That board is one of the top AMD 890FX...
Conclusion: Just near the CPU plug you can see the Northbridge controller with a mini 40mm fan. Don’t let this little sucker fool you though, it can scream real loud when temperatures start going above 50C.
Conclusion: While we like the ability to use any graphics card in a motherboard without having to worry about compatibility, we are not too certain yet as to the benefit of the Lucid chip. For one, our tests show that the performance gain is not always consistent. Furthermore, since Lucid relies on profiles, it may not recognize newer cards, like our HD6850, until an updated profile is provided.
Pros: Very sexy looking board, Excellent overclocking option, Five PCI-E slots, Having the ability to mix and match GPUs, Low power consumption, USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s, Status LED, Good build quality, Switchable PCI-E
Cons: EATX form factor, Realtek Audio chip (we kind of expect a little better audio), Fan is a bit noisy, Hydralogix performance still needs work, Pricing
Excerpt: Another week brings with it another motherboard toting Lucid's HydraLogix 200 (nee Hydra 200) mix-and-match graphics technology. This time, however, it comes not from MSI, but from archrivals Asus.
Conclusion: Our comprehensive evaluation of the Crosshair IV Extreme has identified a number of the board's strengths but also a number of pitfalls. In terms of performance, it would generally appear that we are onto a winner here. During our testing, we were able to reach a peak HTT of 350MHz and the CH4E's Lucid Hydra performance proved to be very competitive.
Pros: Leading Lucid Performance, Feature Set, Board Layout
ASUS Reveals the Crosshair IV Extreme AMD 890FX Mobo
12 May 2010
Conclusion: While we're in the midst of reviewing a handful of AMD 890FX motherboards to go with your new Thuban-class processors, ASUS dropped us some photos to share of their top AMD 890FX motherboard in the works. As if the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula wasn't bad-ass enough, the even newer Crosshair IV Extreme motherboard (also part of the Republic Of Gamers series), topped the Formula with a Lucid Hyrdra 200 chip integrated onboard to enable multi-GPU configuration of either ATI or...
Asus Crosshair IV Extreme - bogatstvo mogućnosti i opreme
2 weeks ago
Conclusion: Asus je još jednom napravio odličan posao.
Pros: Izuzetno bogata opremom i mogućnostima, overclocking mogućnosti, mogućnosti proširenja, kvaliteta izrade, bogat bundle, solidan layout.
