ASUS Crosshair III Formula Motherboard Review
11 December 2009
Conclusion: ASUS has set a reputation among enthusiasts of offering high-priced excellent performing gaming motherboards of choice with their Republic Of Gamers motherboards and the CROSSHAIR III Formula is an excellent example of its breed. The board overclocked to 3.21GHz from the default 2.6GHz a 23% overclock that was completely stable.
Summary: ASUS releases yet another Republic of Gamers motherboard, this time for our AMD users. The Crosshair III Formula is the latest incarnation of the ROG series which means that it comes from excellent pedigree. The Crosshair III Formula has some big shoes to fill. Is the Crosshair III AMD 790FX chipset motherboard is up to the challenge?
Conclusion: Inside the box we found 6x SATA cables, an IDE Cable, the Asus LCD poster, ROG case badge, a user manual, a DVD driver disc, an I/O Back Panel shield, the Asus Q-Connecter and a PCI bracket that holds two USB and Firewire ports.
Conclusion: When looking at competing boards on offer, both the Asus M4A79T Deluxe (a current favorite) and the new Crosshair III Formula happen to utilize the same chipset, including the SB750 south bridge. You will have to pick on the few differences to make up your mind between these two. The M4A79T Deluxe is also aimed at the high-end segment and offers a number of user friendly features such as Express Gate .
Conclusion: With their Crosshair III Formula motherboard, ASUS has delivered another excellent Republic of Gamers product. We love the ROG features like the LCD Poster, SupremeFX audio, and the onboard buttons, and the motherboard’s build quality is exemplary and backed up by the best BIOS we’ve seen yet on a 790FX motherboard. At the same time though, we can’t help but get the feeling that there’s something missing. Our biggest gripe is probably the number of SATA ports.
Conclusion: So let’s wrap it up. The Crosshair III Formula features everything we have come to expect from a Republic of Gamer’s board and then some. To make matters even better, this motherboard is opening up a new world for AMD users who want to achieve even better overclocking results than previously obtained, and with a few world records under green machine’s belt already, that is some excellent news.
Pros: Feature packed BIOS that skimps on nothing, Priced accordingly (little ROG markup), Willing and solid overclocker, Well laid out PCB, Cooling improvements that actually work, and work well!
Cons: Lack of SATA Connections (Only 5), Dual PCIe x16 instead of adopting the growing trend towards 3 or 4 PCIe x16 slots., DIMM slots won't allow for tall ramsinks with large air cooler
Pros: Rewelacyjna jakość wykonania, Rozbudowany BIOS, Bardzo dużo złącz, Znakomite rozłożenie elementów płyty, Doskonała do podkręcania procesorów
