Summary: I know I’ve bagged on ASRock pretty hard in the past. I always felt that ASRock’ "rep" with me was well deserved. Its more recent offerings have been solid on the bench but not anything I’d actually buy for myself. Certainly those lower tier motherboards are worthy of recommendation with a word of caution about the thin PCBs and some other issues. The ASRock Z77 OC Formula is different. I have no reservations about using this board for anything.
Summary: Generally speaking our ASRock experiences have been positive save for one or two minor complaints. We’ve looked inexpensive but very popular ASRock model motherboards. Today we are taking a look at a higher end more expensive ASRock offering. The Z77 OC Formula caught our eye and will hopefully perform as great.
Summary: The Z77 OC Formula is one of the high performance motherboards from ASRock, was built in cooperation with the well-known overclocker Nick Shih and features a 12 + 4 VRM design covered by a massive waterblock/heatsink, an 8-layer PCB, measuring points, plenty of thermal sensors and more.
ASRock Z77 OC Formula Review: Living In The Fast Lane
15 January 2013
Conclusion: Final Words When the Z77 OC Formula was first shown to the public at Computex 2012 (we covered it here ), there was a small outcry on the basis of its name more than anything else. We already had the Gigabyte X58A-OC and ASUS Formula boards, so there was a large inkling that ASRock wanted a piece of this pie in their ‘OC Formula’ naming.
ASRock Z77 OC Formula Review: LGA 1155 Mainboard for Overclocking and Breaking Records
10 October 2012
Summary: The long list of various peculiarities and features of this mainboard should make overclocking and performance optimization very easy. Free from any major issues, this award-winning product is definitely worth your attention.
Summary: So, what can I really say about the ASRock Z77 OC Formula? Really, not that much. The packaging is simply phenomenal, making an impact like no other. There are several unique features on the board itself, many of which will affect your system's ability to overclock. It comes at a very reasonable price considering its top-shelf design and added SATA ports. The software package is like no other and doesn't add much, if anything at all, to the price.
Pros: Excellent onboard cooling., Many overclocking-specific features, too many to list, Pretty decent pricing, considering all the features, Good audio rendering, Big software package, Simple color-scheme that can easily match any other components well, Fully functional AMI UEFI BIOS, including mouse support and support for 3 TB+ drives.
Cons: Color scheme matched by very few other parts on the market today., Limited Video output, with only HDMI possible without add-on cards., ADD-on 40mm nearly useless., Overclock ability is not as good as expected, and requires manual tuning with current BIOS., Limited accessories, like no V-Check cables at all, while there are unnecessary MOLEX-TO-SATA cables., Mixed color-scheme of black, gold, and yellow appears quite dis-jointed and cobbled together., Add-on PCIe powe...
ASRock Z77 OC Formula review: designed by Nick Shih
4 October 2012
Excerpt: ASRock has a new high-end Socket 1155 motherboard specially aimed at overclockers. Professional overclocker Nick Shih assisted with the design of the ASRock Z77 OC Formula board, and also added a number of custom overclocking profiles. We tested the board, and compared it to dozens of other Z77 boards we tested previously.
Summary: Final Thoughts
When ASRock first offered to send me the Z77 OC Formula for review, I couldn’t be happier. I originally purchased the
for my own personal use before writing the review on it, but I always kept looking at the OC Formula (or extreme9) that I’d like to eventually get to experience. I honestly was expecting to be blown away by the Z77 OC Formula, and in the end I really, really liked it.
Pros: Overclocks like a champ, Price, Aesthetics, Water cooling ready, Unique features like Rapid OC and PCIE on/off are actually USEFUL, High quality
Cons: Not the greatest stock performance, Water cooling channel designed for 3/8″ ID tubing – most enthusiasts prefer 1/2″ ID or higher
Excerpt: When I first saw the ASRock Z77 OC Formula the first thing I thought of was Bumblebee from the Transformers thanks to the black and yellow color scheme which is something that we haven't seen a company use before.
