Great Board if you like to tinker

Albert W., Newegg
6 December 2014
  • Summary: Auto overclocking is probably not wise. Note that the external USB 3.0 goes on a black plate OR the 2.5" disk carrier. You only get 2 sockets and you move them to the plate or the carrier depending on what you want.
  • Pros: Great board with plenty of everything. Lots of fan connectors. 8 SATA. 1 PCI slot. Can handle 5GHz parts (official or unofficial). Good looking board. Nice accessories. Unusual reset and power buttons on the board. CMOS reset button on back panel.
  • Cons: SATA ports are right angled which can be hard to manipulate and also puts cable where it can block things like fan ducts etc. The BIOS is a little strange but has lots of features. I did notice that with a mouse and keyboard in one set of USB2 ports it would not boot even though the mouse worked ...

OC Boss

CALEB P., Newegg
5 November 2014
  • Pros: This board is INSANELY better than my old budget mobo (msi 970a-g46). This board got my fx8150 to 4.8ghz using only the multiplier and 1.35v. The msi only got 4.2 on that voltage. The board also looks really good. Everything was really nice about this board.
  • Cons: I couldn't get one of the cpu fan headers to register. it kept the fan plugged into it at full power but would not register in the bios??? I think it is a problem with the fan but not sure quite yet, so no egg taken off there. However, don't try installing windows from a bootable usb... it will n...

Bad start

Christopher A., Newegg
25 October 2014
  • Summary: I'm willing to accept that everyone gets a bad luck draw in some cases. That isn't why I'm knocking off an egg. The egg comes off for the questionable support of Asrock. The only contact option for technical support is via email.
  • Pros: Asrock has really stepped up to the plate over the years. Their boards have gone from being very poor to being excellent in a few short years. They're stylish, and highly functional, and made with quality parts. As for functionality, that remains to be seen, as mine doesn't work. See cons.
  • Cons: This board seems to be a DOA board, which happens. The board loads, I see the bios splash screen, yet I get Dr Debug code error:99, which is a problem with PCI according to the manual. The only PCI item I have installed is my GA-697OC-2GD GPU. I removed and reseated it over 15 times, and even rep...

Good MB but not for Extreme OC

Dale W., Newegg
22 October 2014
  • Summary: The included software is only average including the bios. Somehow the CPU volts (vid) runs very low, but its not reflected in the power consumption compared to my old board. Magic Numbers: If it bluescreens incr CPUv another click.
  • Pros: My GSkill Z DDR2400 is stable at 2450mhz. Plenty of fan headers, Sata plugs etc.. Good price compared to its competitors.
  • Cons: Doesn't overclock for me above 4400 mhz. This same 8320 cpu ran in my old ASUS M5A97 easily at 4700 mhz by comparison. IES is of no use as it req's another 0.05 volts when you turn it on. See no power saving in its use, that's why its not used in Oclocking.

Good if it works

Jeffrey A., Newegg
16 October 2014
  • Summary: First board I got was DOA and it took about two weeks to get the replacement boards where as it took 2 days for me to get the original. This was certainly irritating.
  • Pros: Easy Sata access on the side, Enough fan pins. Supports lots of RAM and generally runs well.
  • Cons: All the fan pins are above the CPU and difficult to reach.

Good Borad/UEFI Lacking/USB Solution

Richard C., Newegg
23 August 2014
  • Summary: I would recommend this board for an ADVANCED users only. IF you are new to overclocking you might want to go ASUS, Gigabyte or MSI. If you want to overclock your 8350 to 5ghz, this is NOT the board for you.
  • Pros: Is a decent board that has a lot of features, not a lot of bloatware and the price is right.
  • Cons: Socket is HOT HOT HOT!!! Socket runs up to 70C on load at only a 600 Mhz overclock WITH liquid cooling. Use AMD Overdirve when running Prime95 to check the thermal margin while overclocking this board or you will think you are frying your system. UEFI is hard to get a stable overclock. Can't adju...

Solid Board

Brandon S., Amazon
21 June 2014

Good product with some flaws

B. Schnell, Amazon
4 June 2014
  • Summary: What I like about it: This motherboard has a great BIOS set up that made it really easy to overclock my AMD system. Was able to push my processor up to 4.375 GHz without even adjusting voltages.

ASROCK 990FX Extreme9

Johnny L., Newegg
21 April 2014
  • Summary: I Feel like such a moron, I sent this board back 2 times because I thought the heatsink shields were all scratched up, but have since found out that there is a plastic film that covers them. First Ive ever heard of this.
  • Pros: Board looks Great!
  • Cons: none so far, am going to install during my vacation next week, will update then.
