Great board!

Bonnie U., Newegg
8 November 2013
  • Summary: This board hangs on my wall of old mobos and GPUs. I'm a geek like that. Certain components that lasted a long time or had memorable moments get a spot on the wall. I also remember there being other competitors out there some good (Chaintech) and some bad (Jetway) and Abit was known at the time for...
  • Pros: Ahh Abit. One of the companies that put a little more effort in their build quality when voltage requirements started making big leaps and bounds. Overclocks on this board weren't the most stellar but it ran for a couple years as my grandfather's email/web box. Also, this board had a very appeali...
  • Cons: The northbridge fan, albeit a cool looking one for it's time, did not have any sort of thermal compound applied and when I took it off to get some Arctic Silver 5 on it I scraped the chip. This prompted me to experiment with thermal adhesive, which worked very well after I got the mixtures right!

Great Skt 478 MoBo

Anonymous, Newegg
7 January 2006
  • Summary: Socket 478 is getting long in the tooth. I love this board, and Abit products, but the time will come when this becomes the backbone of a net surfer in my house. If you are new to overclocking, this is a great motherboard to learn the ropes.
  • Pros: Great enthusiast board for Socket 478, when it was introduced. Can be handle significant overclocks, if your memory is up to it. IDE and SATA...you'll never run out of connectors for your optical drives and storage . USB and Firewire...up to 8 USB ports if every header is hooked up to front or to...
  • Cons: Notoriously under-volts 0.05V-.10V, can make overclocking tricky if you need more volts to handle the additional speed. I am not sure if this is a criticism though, because it is consistent...

Great mobo all in all

Nathan M., Newegg
29 November 2005
  • Pros: i bought this mobo back on 2/1/2004 and ive had to replace it twice because the memory controler fan died, other than that not any real complaints. Oh yeah, from time to time on the boot up screen it doesnt specify if HT mode is on or dual channel mode is on, i dont know if this is a glitch or wh...

Bad NB Fan

Robert L., Newegg
12 October 2005
  • Summary: My northbridge fan became very noisy and eventually stopped completely after a few months. The heatsink alone without the fan running provided acceptable cooling, so I just left the fan unplugged for a while until i found a solution.

solid mobo but watch out for overvolting

Youngmin J., Newegg
12 September 2004
  • Summary: overall this is a really solid mobo, it's withstood case modding, being taken out and put back in, and no parts have snapped off except a little ram holder thing but i replaced it.

  • Summary: The Abit IS7 is a good board, with great overclocking potential - but only with proper cooling. The stock NB fan has issues - I've had mine since 1/04, and eight months later the stock northbridge fan is dying, and I'm replacing it with a Zalman (fanless) heatsink.

Excellent

Marc R., Newegg
26 July 2004
  • Summary: Very good mobo overall. Other users have said that the onboard sound is bad. I had a SB Audigy, and have not tried the onboard sound. But overall it's an excellent motherboard. I love the SoftMenu options! That is the best feature in my opinion. VERY easy to use and user-friendly.

Great Board!

Anonymous, Newegg
16 June 2004
  • Summary: This mobo has worked steadily for me for a year now. As the others reviewers have noted, the sound is the only bad point. If you buy this mobo, plan on buying a separate sound card (which I'd recommend anyway). I haven't purchased one yet, but the sound is steadily becoming hit or miss.

  • Summary: Nice board, I love Abit, last one I had was a VP6 :). Rated it a 4 because as many others have said, the audio did not work for me at first. I bet I could figure it out if I pursued it, but I just used an older Sound Blaster Live card because it was easier.
