Excerpt: Abit's IC7-MAX3 The Legacy Free, OTES Cooled Canterwood Board By Dave Altavilla September 22, 2003 You definitely have to hand it to the engineers at Abit Computer . While many motherboard manufacturers are taking steps to differentiate their board from the masses, by bundling in gimmick goodies, like FrontX drive bay boxes and travel bags, Abit has been delivering breakout innovative motherboard designs, that call attention to themselves all on their own.
Conclusion: Abit had definitely proven their standards with their IC7-MAX3. I couldn’t say anything more to let you know how great this motherboard performs. With its superb overclock-ability and support for plenty of devices, you can never go wrong with Abit. However, I would like to point out that the IC7-MAX3 shows temperatures slightly higher than other Asus or MSI motherboards.
Pros: Superb overclock-ability, Supports 6 SATA devices, Firewire and Optical SPDIF In/Out, Secure IDE and Round Cables, OTES cooling system, High performance NB cooler
Cons: Price, Temperature reading is slightly higher than normal boards
Conclusion: If you read the Ballistics Report on the previous page, you’re probably not surprised by our final score, the IC7-MAX3 is just that good. ABIT has essentially taken the IC7-G’s excellent board layout, while addresseing the IC7-G’s weaknesses. This is accomplished by incorporating a more robust Serial ATA implementation (thanks to a new Serial ATA controller) and North Bridge cooler. On top of all this, ABIT adds two new features: OTES and SecureIDE.
Excerpt: ABIT are very well known in the enthusiast community for producing some of the most hardcore, feature-packed motherboards on the market. With the release of the Canterwood and Springdale chipset, ABIT came out in force with their IS7 and IC7 (-G) a while back. While both motherboards were very good, they were missing some things that the hardcore overclocker craved.
Review of ABIT IC7-MAX3 Mainboard on Intel 875P Chipset
29 September 2003
Summary: Today we would like to offer you a review of the today’s fastest Socket478 mainboard based on Canterwood chipset. This second generation product supports the upcoming Intel Prescott, boasts OTES cooling system and other exciting features such as Secure IDE and extensive overclocking opportunities.
Pros: Impressively high performance;, High stability, even with four memory modules;, Rich set of overclocking friendly features;, Support of the upcoming Prescott based CPUs;, Two integrated SerialATA RAID controllers supporting up to 6 SATA HDDs;, Gigabit Ethernet connected via the CSA bus and IEEE1394 support;, Smart PCB design and stylish looks;, Hardware data encoding system – Secure IDE.
Cons: High price: over $200;, Possible problems with large processor coolers;, Useless OTES technology increasing the noise level.
Conclusion: The ABIT IC7-Max3 is one of the very few Pentium 4-based motherboards that employ active cooling on its power circuits. Known as OTES cooling, the power transistors responsible for pumping a steady supply of current to the CPU are now actively cooled by an integrated on-board cooler. Each of these transistors are individually attached with a heatsink and they are covered by a plastic enclosure that ensures a proper stream of airflow across these power components.
Summary: Der Test des 6.
