Gives me a headache - blurry, poor color representation
10 August 2012
Summary: My work purchased this monitor for me as a secondary display. I would NEVER have spent my own money on it. I work as a web developer, and stare at two screens all day long. One screen is on a Dell XPS 15z laptop, which is beautiful, sharp and accurately displays all colors. This Viewsonic VX2450 monitor is utter crap. The screen is blurry, even with the highest resolution settings.
Pros: Inexpensive. Large. Doesn't get hot.
Cons: Blurry even on the highest resolution settings, poor color representation, tiny viewing angle. This monitor will give you a headache if you use it for more than an hour.
Cons: I was trying to replace my 6 year old 20 inch viewsonic, and this looked like a good option. However, once it arrived the colors could not even compare. Then it picked up a dead pixel, bright red right in the middle, about a week in, so I had it replaced. The second one has HORRIBLE backlight bleedthrough on the left side, it is entirely white when it should be black. Now I have to return the second one as well, costing me shipping each time. Very disappointed that tw...
Summary: I purchased two of these monitors at the same time to use on my dual monitor configuration. One monitor was perfect, the other had a blue line that went right up the middle of the screen. I RMA'd it and received a new monitor with dead pixels, I then RMA'd that monitor and the replacement looked like a completely different monitor when placing it next to the working monitor I already had.
Pros: Nice looking monitor, long cables, standard power cord.
Cons: Poor quality control and overall product is sub-par. I replaced t hem with two LG monitors. The IPS236 and so far am beyond satisfied. I will not be buying ViewSonic or Samsung monitors ever again.
Summary: Purchased two of these and one had non-working pressure sensitive buttons. Shipped it back (my cost) for replacement, after Viewsonic tech spt was of little help and had offered only a repair, not a replacement for a unit which failed out of box. The replacement unit from NewEgg arrived ... and had the very same issue, again, right out of box.
Pros: Clear display, easy setup, good color. Seems solid, not flimsy, on the desk.
Cons: Second unit I've received where the up and the down pressure sensitive buttons were non-functional right out of the box. (A 3d unit works fine, so it's not me at fault.) Also, fyi, these ship with brightness at 100% level - not used to encountering that. (Agree with many that ViewSonic should include an HDMI port, though not a show-stopper.
Summary: I do *not* own this monitor. I was about to purchase it, when I noticed that HDCP support is not listed under the specifications. I checked the ViewSonic website, and although it lists HDCP for some of their products, it doesn't say one way or another for this particular monitor. So I called them. The representative first didn't seem to know what HDCP was, put me on hold and came back to say "If it doesn't have an HDMI port, it doesn't support HDCP.
Pros: VESA mount compliant and LED backlight, which seems like a rare combination.
Cons: No HDCP support No HDMI, but I figured it didn't matter because I could just use a DVI to HDMI cable if I needed it down the road.
