Works everywhere with caveats; but a great deal nonetheless

Summary: This is a nice monitor. I've had it now for a year and speakers suck. I've thought of getting the S Sony SS-B1000 5 1/8-Inch Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) but the jury ist still out on that one. I got this monitor originally for Vista. Works fine. Tried it on XP, no problems. Used it on Linux and yes XFree86 worked wonders and it ran there too. Then I decided to upgrade to Windows 7, got suggested to take the Viewsonic drivers..and it stopped working.
Summary: Horrible monitor quality, run the other way. Have had about 15 of these for about 18 months. 5-6 failed at about the year mark. Viewsonic takes month to "fix". They have even shipped faulty monitors back to me. These monitors develop a light streak straight down the middle 1/3 of the screen. They also squeal. No problems with viewsonic for a decade, now nothing but problems for the past 2 years or so. Problems are not limited to this model either.
Summary: I bought this monitor for my 79 year old mother (for mother's day). She needed a larger screen area because she was doing so much at once. She also wanted the smaller footprint of the lcd, since her computer area is not terribly deep. The display is fantastic, the speakers have a good sound, and it was easy to set up. The only drawback, though, is that the buttons are annoying. The markings are "1" "<" ">" "2" on the side.
Summary: I purchased two monitors even though only one of my old Gateway monitors went bad. Unfortunately, Gateway doesn't make what I used to have because it was a big mistake. The picture on these screens are all washed out and impossible to calibrate to something as nice as I'm used to seeing. I always had good luck with ViewSonic in the past but the quality of these monitors are reflected in their cheap price.
Summary: Wonderful screen. Vivid colors that look great. Tilts for tall or short users. Some of the Monitors that I previewed did not tilt at all. Others had limited movement. For $165 and no freight by shipping to and picking up at Wal Mart, it is a great price!! I haven't connected the speakers yet, I hope they have a good sound.
Summary: I have now had this monitor for a week. It replaced an older View Sonic that failed after about 6 years. So far I am pleased with it. For just average computer use & viewing instant Netflix I have seen no problems. It did take me a couple of days to get use to the brightness. I have not seen any of the problems some of the other folks have posted. For now I am completely satisfied.
