Review Summary
SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226BW is a sleek, slim bezel with a beautiful, high-gloss black finish. The widescreen 30” LCD displays represent the ultimate in high-definition widescreen gaming and entertainment. The monitor’s specs are listed in multiple languages beneath an illustration and the box tells you everything you need to know about the 226BW when purchasing it. Inside the package box, there is the SyncMaster 226BW display itself; the base for the stand, the usual documentation (Quick Setup Guide, Snail-mail Warranty Card & Safety Information), and the monitor software CD. Finally, there are the Analog DB-15 VGA and Digital DVI-D cables, and naturally, the power cord. SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226BW measures 20.3” by 16.6” by 8.8”. The only visible button on the front of the display is the power button, which has a brushed metal finish, and gives off a blue glow around its edges when activated. The lower edge has a metallic silver inlay that contrasts nicely against the glossy black finish. Setup allows to enable or disable and to detect the current ability active connection. Information tells what the current connection is (analog or digital), horizontal and vertical refresh rates, and resolution. There are no USB hub/ports, built-in speakers or card reader on the SyncMaster 226BW and neither any Composite video connection. So if you want to hook your Xbox 360 up to it, you’ll need to buy an Xbox VGA cable. Quickly replacing regular 17-19” standard and widescreen displays, with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, 20-22” LCDs are considered the new budget/entry-level models. To keep costs down, LCDs in this price range usually lack the amenities—built-in USB hubs and ports, card readers, speakers, and “portrait mode” rotation—of their larger, pricier counterparts. With prices ranging from the mid $200 to $350 this is where the SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226BW fits in.

No one will deny the fact that Samsung makes great monitors. The original 225BW was hit with a rash of problems and with Dell's new 22" wide screen, Samsung's 226BW has some steep competition in the market. Read more

Samsung SyncMaster 226BW LCD Display
Reviewer: Barrys rigs'n reviews16 July 2007- Overall 8

The SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226BW could really use an adjustable-height stand—even if it's just a simple telescopic mechanism that allows you to raise the panel up to an additional 6 inches. Although it's not common for displays this size and in this price range, it would have really been great if SAMSUNG had integrated a four-port USB hub into the 226BW (you can keep the cheesy, so-called stereo built-in speakers, though). In spite of the slick, new interface, MagicTune ... Read more

Samsung SyncMaster 226BW
Reviewer: bit-tech.net15 March 2007Suffice to say then that with the looks, features and performance, the Samsung 226BW is definitely our pick of the 22" bunch. However, another Samsung’s display that gives it some competition is the 215TW. This is still one of our favourite units for widescreen monitor quality and it also has the advantage of Component and S-video inputs, which makes it much more flexible, especially for use with consoles. Of course, you lose an inch to the 226BW, it costs a fair ch... Read more

Casual users only
Reviewer: A Customer, review.buy.com10 August 2007- Overall 6

The brightness and colors are great if you're a casual user of a computer, nice size, decent value. Very satisfactory for gaming.

If you do any kind of color-sensitive design work or photo editing, pass on this. The distortions in color at very small adjustments in viewing angle are terrible. You can't do any color work with this panel. I used the color profiles at andrewswihart.net, which helped tremendously with color ramp issues, but put up a solid block ... Read more
