  • Conclusion: The Samsung SyncMaster 172X 17" Narrow & Slim Color TFT LCD display is a very nice monitor. The controls are great and the quality is fantastic. Samsung has gone far beyond any LCD we have seen. The 172X finally bridges the gap for gamers to enter into the LCD monitor arena, and be happy with what they see. Samsung is well known for creating an excellent flat panel LCD display and the 172X far exceeds expectations..

  • Conclusion: If true colour reproduction is critical to you (for example, if you work with digital images for a living), then this monitor, or any 18-bit LCD for that matter, may not be for you. It can't provide you with the true 24/32-bit colour depth that is critical for this kind of work, and people looking for a monitor for this purpose should probably still consider a professional-level CRT monitor for their needs.
