Summary: Just got it in today, its incredibly beautiful. The resolution is crisp and the colors are vibrant, exactly what I'd expect from a $800+ IPS monitor. Except this was much cheaper! As for the sound... yes there is a high pitch that comes from the power supply but its really not as bad as people make it out to be. Within 2 min I no longer heard it, also if you watch videos listen to music or play games you'll never hear it.
2 Faulty Monitors and the WORST customer service I have ever experienced.
8 October 2014
Summary: I ordered this monitor excited about an alternative to the Apple Thunderbolt display. Like a previous reviewer, my monitor was DOA with a blue light indicating that it was on but the screen was not working. My first call to customer service left with them blaming it on me because I owned a Mac (Oh the horror). It took a second call to convince them that it was actually broken. They reluctantly sent me a replacement monitor.
Summary: I was really excited about getting this up and running but out of the box it wasn't working, just a blue light next to the power button and nothing else... Aesthetically it's really beautiful. I'm going to try another one and update my review here if that one works.
Summary: This is an excellent monitor, hands down. Keep in mind that I purchased this monitor for a co-worker who had requested an Apple Cinema display, but desired a less costly piece of equipment. This Planar monitor model was the answer. To date, this is the second one of this model we have purchased. It is a great balance of cost savings and performance. Thank you Planar!
Summary: Unfortunately, these are going back for a refund.
Pros: This is a really fantastic display. Colors and clarity definitely live up to the rave review by tom's hardware. Even the case is very elegant.
Cons: The one, fatal flaw is the high pitched buzzing noise that this display emits. As you adjust brightness the frequency and volume of the buzzing changes, but it never entirely disappears. The only times I don't hear the buzzing is when my laptop's fans are running full blast and the display is at its blinding brightest. For me at least, the sound makes these displays (I bought two) unusable. Also worth noting is the fact these displays I bought are not defective, but j...
Summary: I purchased this Planar Monitor for use in CAD and it has met all of my expectations and made my employee very happy. It is bright and sharp. Much sharper than standard HD. Just make sure you have a good graphics card with a display port connection that can drive monitors with this resolution.
Summary:
None of the cons would stop me from buying another. In fact, I had bought one at work, then bought one for home a few weeks later. I'm tempted now to try a 4k monitor because I'm still zooming in CAD apps and repositioning my many windows a little too often, but I'd still buy another one of these if I need a good monitor without ridiculous resolution.
Power consumption [brightness], [contrast], [W]: 100, 50, 73 50, 50, 58 0, 50, 42 Measured with Kill-A-Watt.
Pros:
Absolutely perfectly crisp, clean display quality. I'm primarily a text processing type of user (programming, documentation writing), but also CAD (mostly 2D, some 3D). Occasionally I edit images.
So far, this monitor has lived up to my expectations for a "best in class" display for professional computing. It is also very good looking.
High pitched whine that some people whine about went away after a few days, or else I became conditioned to it and just can't...
Cons:
At first, I noticed the high pitched whine that other people had also heard. But after 1-3 days, it either disappeared or I just became used to it and effectively can't hear it anymore.
Too big--I'd prefer a 23-24 inch 2k monitor, but they don't exist.
The only other thing that bugs me is it's too bright!!! I have the brightness turned to 0, and I adjust the contrast btw 10 (night time) to 30-40 (day). That is bright enough. I can't fault Planar too much, bec...
Summary: I'm impressed with the clarity of this monitor, but I think that is only because I have never seen 1440p until now. This monitor has seriously bad light bleeding. During any dark scene of a movie, or loading screens, or video games, you can see HUGE white splotches all around the edges and corners of the screen. In darker games it is actually so distracting that I would rather switch back to my 1080p monitor to play them.
Summary: Great monitor that looks absolutely amazing and stunning. The monitor looked yellowish when I first turned it on and sort of scared me but all I did was turn the green in the color calibration on windows and it fixed it. Best monitor I've ever had and is on par or even better than the iMac display. The stand and overall looks blow other monitors out of the water. The only issue this monitor has which it is infamous for is the sound it makes while it is on.
Summary: I've used this Planar monitor for one day and that was enough for me to decide to return it (thanks to Amazon excellent return policy that part was hassle free). First the good things- the display is excellent both in terms of built and image quality. The bevel-less design and sturdy stand looks very professional and due to the screen being fused with front glass, it is very sharp and bright at default settings.
