Great monitor, but watch out for defective direction-sticks
28 March 2011
Summary: When I first got the monitor, I was very impressed with the color, brightness, contrast, response times, stand adjustability, and cable management features. I recommended this monitor to everyone I thought would care and planned on buying another pair for a three-monitor Eyefinity rig. During that time, it was easily worth 5 stars. Unfortunately, when I decided to dial in the color settings, the directional stick used to navigate the on-screen menus broke off.
Summary: Editing... Found a dead pixel. And the regular story about it of course is: "That pixel doesn't damage my work vitally. BUT I AM THINKING ABOUT THAT PIXEL EVERY TIME I LOOK AT THE MONITOR." Not so happy to find it on a brand new purchase. BEFORE: Was choosing between ViewSonic and NEC. I took an advise for NEC's favor. Monitor is already assembled. Good quality. Speakers are good for the price. At least they're much better than on my laptop's speakers.
Summary: Unfortunately this one is going back. The unit I received has a dramatic color shift to purple in the left side - especially in the lower left corner. I am returning it to buy a HP ZR22w 21.5-inch S-IPS LCD Monitor to see how it does. It's a S-IPS panel (better) than the E-IPS panel used in this NEC. The HP's dot-pitch is higher also.
