Good quality monitor

Ray, Amazon
28 November 2012
  • Summary: This is certainly a good monitor. I've been using it everyday now since 2010. I photo edit on it--the gamma adjustment went very well. I watch videos on it. I even play Xbox 360 games on it, which it is definitely not intended for, though does well enough. It is built very well and I suspect it will last me a good number of years. Things I am not fond of: The lack of an HDMI input.

G. Sholette "gsholette", Amazon
23 August 2012
  • Summary: Right from the start this screen was difficult to adjust, now, after 2.5 years it comes on then shuts off completely soon after the "on" button is pressed. Not what I expected from NEC. I would avoid this produce.

An accurate but unspectacular looking display

Alexander V. Price, Amazon
2 October 2011
  • Summary: I got this monitor a little more than a year ago after reading reviews praising it's out-of-box color accuracy and relatively low lag for gaming. Unfortunately, this monitor didn't serve me while in either respect. I am very sensitive to LCD lag and this displays got plenty of it. More than enough to make it noticeable when just moving the cursor around in windows. While it may have "accurate" colors, in real life it looks pretty "meh.

Great monitor, but watch out for defective direction-sticks

freshmas, Amazon
28 March 2011
  • Summary: When I first got the monitor, I was very impressed with the color, brightness, contrast, response times, stand adjustability, and cable management features. I recommended this monitor to everyone I thought would care and planned on buying another pair for a three-monitor Eyefinity rig. During that time, it was easily worth 5 stars. Unfortunately, when I decided to dial in the color settings, the directional stick used to navigate the on-screen menus broke off.

Nice monitor for the price. NO HDMI. DEAD PIXEL

feline, Amazon
23 March 2011
  • Summary: Editing... Found a dead pixel. And the regular story about it of course is: "That pixel doesn't damage my work vitally. BUT I AM THINKING ABOUT THAT PIXEL EVERY TIME I LOOK AT THE MONITOR." Not so happy to find it on a brand new purchase. BEFORE: Was choosing between ViewSonic and NEC. I took an advise for NEC's favor. Monitor is already assembled. Good quality. Speakers are good for the price. At least they're much better than on my laptop's speakers.

A good monitor

Another Floyd, Amazon
21 March 2011
  • Summary: This monitor has met my expectations. As a casual photo editor, I have been satisfied with the colors with no adjustment. I set up the gamma in my graphics driver, and was good to go. I did not find the screen controls difficult to learn or use, with one exception, which has not been mentioned here, and which was not noted in the downloadable user manual: assume you've already turned off the eco-mode and auto-brightness.

Amazing deal

Book buyer, Amazon
5 March 2011
  • Summary: This monitor is steal for the price. It has VGA, DVI, and Displayport connections. I use a Displayport to Mini Displayport cable to connect it to my Macwhich works great. Very nice picture quality, calibrates easily and provides an excellent picture or text or images. Very solid build quality, nice stand and easily adjustable all the way around. Snap it up while you can.

Nasty nasty purple left side

Todd Gilbert, Amazon
9 February 2011
  • Summary: Unfortunately this one is going back. The unit I received has a dramatic color shift to purple in the left side - especially in the lower left corner. I am returning it to buy a HP ZR22w 21.5-inch S-IPS LCD Monitor to see how it does. It's a S-IPS panel (better) than the E-IPS panel used in this NEC. The HP's dot-pitch is higher also.

Stunning photo-editing monitor for the price

Patricia Sollner "writer", Amazon
23 January 2011
  • Summary: My spouse and I have had and loved Dell Sony Trinitrons for some years; even did the low-level hack to fix excess brightness and keep them tweaked up a few more years. But as photo editing became more important, the greenish cast of the Trinitron at low light levels, and the inherently lower CRT resolution, suggested it was time for a change. This NEC EA231WMi-BK was a Christmas present, so we've had it about a month now.
