Good screen but buyer beware of the seller.

Robert G. Kaplan, Amazon
28 December 2014
  • Summary: The reason the price was so good was because it was actually an older version which didn't have the newer connections. i had to buy an adapter to use this screen. The seller should have made this clear. The screen itself is very good though.

Great for text

Alexander W., Newegg
2 December 2013
  • Pros: I use this as a secondary monitor for my IDE text editor for web development; HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, etc... since the monitor is so tall when turned vertically. This is extremely helpful since I can see more at once without scrolling up and down constantly. The monitor's adjustments for pivot, swive...
  • Cons: I think the colors are a little off. Ive never been able to get it to look quite right but overall it looks nice for text.... maybe not for editing graphics, video, or photos though.

Excellent Monitor. I have two of them.

John Benadum John B, Amazon
29 August 2013
  • Summary: I have two of these monitors hooked up to a new laptop. I would really like to have one large (square style) monitor around 32 inches but the price for such an animal is just crazy, so two widescreens was the affordable alternative.

Very Poor Menu Interface

Jamison D., Newegg
11 December 2011
  • Pros: The monitor swivels and pivots as advertised.
  • Cons: This monitor is EXTREMELY difficult to program. After two week I am still unable to keep the monitor from entering into the ECO Modes and losing the backlight. When you turn the monitor off, it resets to factory default settings.

NEC E231W monitor (dec 2011)

Daniel H., Newegg
6 December 2011
  • Summary: I wanted a monitor that rotates (pivot) for use in portrait & landscape mode. The monitor does that well: solid stand, easy to pivot and otherwise adjust. Picture quality is decent. However, as a programmer (in a dual monitor setup) my standards aren't high.
  • Pros: Solid stand, move all the ways it should. Decent picture quality
  • Cons: Chintzy OSD controls, monitor parameters can not be set by by NEC's "Navigate" monitor software

Quality at it's best!

Eddie J., Newegg
26 October 2011
  • Summary: buy worth the money.
  • Pros: One of the better HD monitors. Fast response time and image quality is clear and crisp. 4 out of 5 eggs for the one con. Recommended for gamers.
  • Cons: The Green Features have a small glitch. When you have it set for eco 1 or 2 the monitor goes from dark to bright a few times then it stops.

Full ergo adjustments, DP, and LED? Yes, please!

Michael H., Newegg
18 July 2011
  • Summary: I purchased this mostly for the power savings over my older display, the ergonomic adjustability, and the DisplayPort connector. While I wish this had an IPS panel, I can't really complain since the E231w costs significantly less than 23" IPS displays that would require a few trade offs on what I...
  • Pros: •Bright, sharp image - No problem reproducing text, haven't detected a hint of ghosting or smearing while playing movies or games. •One of the few LED displays with height, tilt, swivel, and rotation adjustment - Not sure why more manufacturers don't do the same. The stand is fairly solid, and it...
  • Cons: •It's a TN panel - Thought I'd put any debate to bed since NEC doesn't publish this information. You can move about 30° off axis horizontally without seeing color distortion. Vertical is less than 10°. Forget color accuracy if you rotate this into portrait mode. •Native color leans towards blue -...

my review

SomeoneSomewhere, Amazon
12 April 2011
  • Summary: The monitors are bright and big. I bought two and have them side by side (horizontally). However, one monitor has a stuck pixel in the upper left corner. It's usually stuck on blue after the Windows loading screen. I typically don't notice it though because it's not in the main view.

Horrible setup and power, good resolution

Ian Kaplan, Amazon
11 March 2011
  • Summary: Once this monitor is properly set up, the resolution is excellent, with very good color and a very clear picture. Compared to historic prices for this quality of monitor, the price ($201, before tax and shipping) was good as well. However, I found the setup frustrating and difficult.
