Conclusion: As a 2D display, the HP 2311gt just looks kind of dull. Not irredeemably so, but the fact remains that you can get a better looking monitor for less if you’re not totally sold on the whole 3D thing. Its passive 3D mode goes a long way in improving impressions, but you should be prepared to make extensive use of 3D to make its $270 price tag feel worthwhile.
Pros: DVI, VGA and HDMI inputs, Understated, low-key design, Convincing 3D performance
Cons: Horizontal stripes from polarizing filter, Greenish tint out of the box, Average brightness diminished by 3D glasses, Not many settings to tweak
Excerpt: First Impressions My reaction is While 3D televisions are still unjustifiable-to-the-spouse expensive, the PC monitor end of the spectrum is increasingly heading to the polar opposite. The HP 2311gt is one such solution that is aimed at that market, providing 3D capability along with the usual PC monitor features at an affordable price. How it does during our test, is what we find out.
Conclusion: The monitor is light on ports – there is only one of VGA, DVI and HDMI, but considering the price point, it’s a fairly acceptable crime to commit. What I did really like about them, though, are their placement. They are slapped flat straight on the back of the monitor, instead of hiding them in a dig that requires you to tip the monitor on one hand, wear a miner’s helmet to read the markings and fiddle around to install the cable on a slot.
Conclusion: The HP 2311gt offers an affordable way to bring 3D to your desktop. Good colour and "true" 3D quality are this 23in monitor's high points, but its narrow viewing angles and inability to display light greys hold it back. Pros: Reasonably priced. Good colour and 3D performance. Two sets of 3D glasses included. Cons: Narrow viewing angles. 2D-3D conversion not very convincing. Weak light greyscale performance.
