  • Conclusion: This monitor delivers bold colors and very good text readability, but its grayscale and viewing angle performance are subpar.
  • Pros: Great color and text reproduction. Good motion handling. Stylish design.
  • Cons: Narrow viewing angles. Lacks multimedia ports. Tilt-only stand.

The Gateway FHD2401 24-Inch WS Full 1080p HD LCD Display

Personal Electronics buzz

  • Excerpt: The Gateway FHD2401 24-inch widescreen HD LCD display features a picture-in-picture function. I bought it as an accessory monitor for my laptop because it has a 15-pin mini-d-sub VGA analog connection and a 24-pin DVI- digital connection. The HDMI connection offers a dynamic 1920 x 1200 full 1080p resolution for viewing video and playing HD games. I bought it at a local discount store for $469 and I am real happy with my purchase.

  • Summary: But the display’s visuals aren’t the best we’ve seen—in our movie, game, and image-quality tests, the images were lacking minor details on both ends of the grayscale spectrum compared to the best panels we’ve tested. The FHD2401 offers support for HDMI, VGA, and DVI inputs, but no component input. You can’t adjust the monitor’s height either, a sloppy omission for a monitor in this size class.
  • Pros: 92% color gamut, HDMI support, good dark greys.
  • Cons: Poor light-greyscale showing; banding and color-tracking problems; no component input or height adjustment
