AVOID LIKE PLAQUE - wait for new model or buy Asus

Stenberg Markus, Amazon
7 August 2014
  • Summary: Executive summary: I'm starting to feel like throwing this off my balcony or using it as a boat anchor.. Long version: I bought this in May; got -A00 model. Summary of issues: a) pre-10.9.2 OS X didn't support; Apple's flaw, fixed by update. b) older nvidia drivers on my PC had DP-MST issues, fixed by updating the drivers. c) doesn't recover from standby 1/3 of the time in DP1.2-MST; allegedly fixed by -A01 firmware Dell doesn't want to give me.

Dell should pay customers to test this monitor, instead of selling it

Photo and Computer Enthusaist, Amazon
17 July 2014
  • Summary: After using this monitor for a month, I can honestly say this beast is a joke. The picture quality is outstanding when the monitor works. But 90% of the time it doesn't. As noted by many REAL online customer reviews, the screen would fail to wake up from sleep. And because the display is two panels stitched into one, immature monitor firmware and display card hardware/driver support means you often get half the screen displaying one thing and another half of the screen...

Not Ready For Prime-Time

JT3, B&H Photo
7 June 2014
  • Excerpt: This Dell monitor is not ready for prime-time. (1) It is shipped with DP1.1 enabled. This means you just paid $ for a monitor that runs at the snail's-pace of 30Hz. Mr. Dell, seriously, what are you thinking? (2) When I enabled DP1.2 using the monitor's menu to get the monitor to run at 60Hz, the left half of the screen went black. At DP1.2 this monitor is not stable. This monitor is really two panels "stiched" together.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up
  • Cons: Runs At 30hz

Really annoying flicker.

inTheMix, Amazon
2 May 2014
  • Summary: Well, as an early adopter, I expect a few minor quirks here and there but this monitor is too much. Occasionally it cuts out and requires unplugging (complete hard reset). However, that is actually tolerable compared to the constant flicker at lower brightness. It's constant and consistent and impossible to fix. Soon as the brightness is reduced below 60% the screen noticeably flickers, like an old tube TV. It's inexcusable.

Great picture when it works. Awful Dell support.

T. Jukic, Amazon
6 April 2014
  • Summary: So, contrary to what my gut feeling suggested and what people warned me around the web, I've bought a Dell UP3214Q. Really, I've been stunned by how good its panel is, how good is the picture, the back-light, the color and its superb resolution of a 4K screen. Until it just turned itself off. Or on. Half of it. Or turned off for good before a power cycle or a dozen of those. Then Nvidia modified drivers for it to work, helped a bit. Tiny bit.

Dell selling a monitor with broken firmware

Michael Bendel, Amazon
5 April 2014
  • Summary: I purchased this monitor from Newegg and returned it as basic functionality is broken on this monitor currently. Sometimes your computer will boot to a half screen displaying and get stuck on a black screen when entering sleep mode or changing resolutions. Not acceptable for a $2300 monitor! While Dell has a firmware fix, they refuse to release it as a user-installable update.

Not ready

WebFanatic, Amazon
21 March 2014
  • Summary: The picture is great - when it works. I tried with a GTX Titan, SLI 2x 780TI, and Crossfire R9 290X. I could never get it to consistently work due to a significant Displayport 1.2 error that causes black screens on wake from sleep and boot. I tried multiple work arounds and could not get it to consistently work. Dell has a firmware fix but they have not released a user installable version.

Firmware Issues

Simon Clough, Amazon
15 August 2014
  • Summary: This monitor has firmware issues and doesn't work well at 60hz. It only works reliably at 30hz. This issue is fixed in the A01 firmware but Dell are not allowing customers to apply it; only return the monitor for a refurbished replacement.
