Great monitor that shouldn't be overlooked

J. Motroni, Amazon
14 July 2014
  • Summary: I've had this monitor since January 2010, and I love it. The colors are great, the 2ms response time is perfect for gaming, and the viewing angles are decent for a TN panel. Love the 4 extra USB ports (2 on the left in the back, and two along the left-edge of the monitor). The 2048x1152 resolution on the 23" screen lets you snap two documents side-by-side, like any computer running Windows 7 and up (or Vista with an AeroSnap mod), but guess what?

Good monitor

P. Duncan, Amazon
4 May 2013
  • Summary: The webcam and mic are a plus, and the monitor itself is quite bright and clear. I have owned this device for going on two years now. Pros: Webcam/mic big bright display. Correct absolute max brightness/contrast are 100brightness and 72 contrast. After 70-72 you will start to blow out the whites and lose color fidelity rapidly. I default the brightness at 90 and contrast at 50-64 depending on time of day.

monitor has limited life then dies, lots of them

froz "dc consultant", Amazon
24 May 2012
  • Summary: Search on Google for "Del SP2309W buzzing noise". A lot of people, me included, had this monitor basically die not long after the warranty expired. Personally I think they're defective, I have LCD monitors years older that still work fine. I won't be buying any more Dell monitors, that's for sure.

"Awesome Monitor"

DaveE91, CNET
23 September 2011
  • Pros: next to a monitor of average contrast ratio, this monitor BLOWS it out of the water. Very high range of colors. Pretty bright.
  • Cons: Microphone isn't the greatest. Semi-difficult to move swivel to access input ports.

Great monitor, great convenience package too

P. C. Bohl "mitholzarbeit", Amazon
5 September 2011
  • Summary: I have over 50 of these monitors, most of them purchased new, a few refurbished ones. My user group has given my team a lot of great compliments on these units. Since they are not made for the commercial market, we had trouble getting quantities of these but in the end we were able to do it. The combination of a decent 23" screen with a built-in USB hub AND a webcam is unbeatable for my users' needs.

  • Pros: It's fast enough for gaming, great color, big enough, uses all the newest technology and has ports for expansion and for older attachments.
  • Cons: The built in stereo microphone makes me sound like I'm in a big chamber.

"Good resolution, bad microphone and back from sleep"

tallia1, CNET
6 July 2011
  • Pros: I think the resolution is pretty sweet. The fact that it has a webcam + microphone and that it allows you to mount the DELL soundbar is pretty cool too.
  • Cons: 1) Microphone has sound quality issues, see here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/p/19328047/19900956.aspx#19900956 2) Very poor vertical view angles... cannot watch movie properly when screen is on desk and I am on the bed

Energy saving mode issue

Hao Yan, Amazon
11 April 2011
  • Summary: I've had this monitor for about 8 month now. Overall I'm pretty happy with this purchase. There is however one issue I'd like to bring to people's attention since on the Dell support forum they seem to refuse to acknowledge it as a defect. If you connect it to your computer via a HDMI cable instead of VGA or DVI, the display's energy saving mode will not engage when the computer turns the display output off or goes to sleep, instead you get a black screen (still fully...
