Benq FP241W: Quality can cost but in this case it's worth it
9 June 2009
Summary: I bought this monitor to replace a slightly faulty 20.1" Viewsonic TFT. I was pretty happy with my old Viewsonic but in many ways I'm glad it failed me because now I have this beauty sitting infront of me. All the specs for this monitor are in the item description so I won't go too deep into them. First thing to say is that this monitor is BIG. 24" widescreen is I think the best size for a multipurpose computer monitor.
Pros: Excellent picture quality, Minimal but pleasing design, adjustability
Summary: I purchased this monitor about 6 months ago, mainly for the use of its HDMI port for my xbox 360. The thing that attracted me about this monitor was not only the HDMI incorporation, but that this was HDCP compliant aswell, allowing you to hook up blu-ray players and play liscenced through your pc. The monitor looks great, with a medium sized base which surprisingly hides itself quite well.
Summary: A friend of mine bought one on my recommendation having read reviews, I saw it and instantly decided to upgrade from my 21. It was worth it, neither of us have had any problems with them, the range of inputs is incredibly useful as is the 1:1 1080p pixel mapping - 360, Blu Ray, PS3, HD-DVD have all been put through our monitors and all look beautiful.
Pros: Beautiful picture, range of inputs
Cons: Not the sleekest dispaly out there, but hardly ugly. Lacks some of the latest HDTV features such as 100hz, but hey, its a monitor not a TV
Excerpt: "I got this monitor for christmas and have been using it for my PC and PS3. It's FullHD (1080p) and has 6 video inputs. (HDMI, DVI-D, D-Sub (or VGA), S-Video, and Composite and Component). It has a very nice stand and comes with a number of cables. It has two USBs at the side and one of the top for webcams. In use, I've loved it. Perfect if you want 1080p HD and don't have the budget for a 42" plasma. Some people may but put off by the low ...
Summary: Pin-Sharp, great colours, minimal back-light bleeding, the range of inputs is incredible. The only downside is the lack of 1:1 scaling, but that's just because I was too impatient to wait for the FP241WZ. A big price jump from 22" screens, but all 24" cost a proverbial arm and a leg, so it's normal I s'pose.
