User Review

Jonathan L., Newegg
25 January 2011
  • Summary: Have a dual monitor setup with two of these (currently running off my laptop - still waiting for the desktop components to arrive - while the laptop has a standalone ATI vid card i'm hoping the new desktop vid card will display a better image).
  • Pros: 16:10 Aspect Ratio (1920x1200) & Price
  • Cons: Horrible colour out of the box! It's like wearing blue sunglasses... sRGB colour setting seems to work the best so far - still playing with it.

Color issues

Robert M., Newegg
23 December 2010
  • Summary: The only way to use this monitor is in standard mode with sRGB color. Its still not that great but its at least useable. If you are shopping for one and get a good price it's not too bad of a monitor but be warned of color issues.
  • Pros: Price, size, 1920x1200, built in speakers
  • Cons: Blue haze as everyone describes

Decent low-end monitor, but color is an issue.

Tom D., Newegg
3 December 2010
  • Summary: After *days* of fiddling with the image settings, I've come as close to truecolor as possible. I use the monitor with XP, Ubuntu Linux 10 and Windows 7 (all detect the monitor perfectly with no additional drivers, so color issues are not the result of conflicting software).
  • Pros: If you get it for a good price, you get a nice large 25.5" screen, sharp picture. Full 16:10 1920x1200 resolution. Built-in speakers are decent, though a bit muffled stuffed inside the casing and projecting backwards. Backlight is bright with no seepage around the edges. Black displays very black...
  • Cons: Disappointments are numerous. Starting with the cheap snap-in stand... no height or swivel (and limited tilt) adjustment (so don't wind your cables through the stand if this is an issue)... the monitor is fixed at 2-inches up off the desk... a mild problem for taller users like myself. You can ad...

OK, nothing special

Gary V., Newegg
2 December 2010
  • Summary: An inexpensive 1920 x 1200 large monitor, which is nice, but you get what you pay for.
  • Pros: • Inexpensive compared to other monitors of this size • 1920 x 1200 resolution • Lots of inputs • Fast response time
  • Cons: • Too bright, some detail is washed out • Non-adjustable stand height • TN Panel

MIddle of the road?

Jeremy M., Newegg
29 November 2010
  • Summary: This is my first LCD, and I have to say... if my 19" SyncMaster 957MB was bigger, I would still be using it - I love CRT and I am not sure if an LCD can ever truly replace a CRT. With that said, I know I will never have the chance to own a nice shiny new CRT again, so I will learn to live with the...
  • Pros: Bright 1920x1200
  • Cons: Some tearing observed in games, especially when brighter areas are displayed in the same spot that a dark area was just being drawn... example: CS:S, Dust2, strafe running in front of B-tuns from B bombsite - the left tunnel edge seems to drag into the middle of the tunnel opening. When I first o...

Its OK

ANTHONY D., Newegg
22 November 2010
  • Summary: I switched from a 2408W monitor, which I really liked a lot, and I may actually switch back. There is noting horribly wrong with this monitor but there is nothing spectacular about it either. Overall, its "OK".
  • Pros: Nice big screen. Can open and utilize many windows. Resolution is very nice and everything looks good at 1920x1200.
  • Cons: Monitor stand does not adjust. Screen is bluish no matter how I futz with the menu options. The onscreen menu is difficult to navigate. Could not get DVI to work with my own cable that worked in other monitors. Sound from these speakers is not to be expected to be great but I have heard much bett...

Worth every penny(on sale), but not a penny more.

JONG L., Newegg
26 October 2010
  • Summary: If you can find this on sale(~$250 after MIR) like I did, then it's definitely worth it. But at retail you'll want to look elsewhere.
  • Pros: Large screen accompanied by high resolution. Many inputs allow me to double this as a tv.
  • Cons: This monitor has a bunch of small issues. There is no 16:9 display format. So that means you can't "fullscreen" 720p signals. Very blue tint to everything, but that can be remedied by tinkering with your levels Putting speakers in the audio out, doesn't always result in audio out. I tried figurin...

Good single gaming monitor

Victor S., Newegg
22 October 2010
  • Summary: Ridiculously blue out of the box. I calibrated it with a Spyder2 Pro. R100 G92 B75 Brightness 99 Contrast 74. The color and gamma shifts are bad, particularly with up-and down movements.
  • Pros: Large 1920x1200 resolution much better than 1920x1080 for web or office tasks. Inexpensive Good response times. No dead pixels on mine.
  • Cons: Ridiculously blue out of the box. Very narrow viewing angle - color and gamma shifts with even small head movements make it unusable for photo editing. If you plan on a multi-monitor setup, the difference in viewing angles means that the monitors will never match for color or contrast.

Viewing angles too small, bad for photo edit or multi-monitor

Victor Strasser, Amazon
22 October 2010
  • Summary: Ridiculously blue out of the box. I calibrated it with a Spyder2 Pro. R100 G92 B75 Brightness 99 Contrast 74. Truth B Told said "Viewing side to side doesn't change the color shift, but viewing from below a little bit makes a noticeable shift---OK, so don't do that." What?

Not for the professional

Jake L., Newegg
11 October 2010
  • Summary: While Asus certainly didn't splurge on construction materials - the housing and stand are both plastic - the monitor is quite sturdy and there are no bright or dead pixels. It's held up very well over the 6+ months that I've had it, but due its abhorrent performance in the color department I'm...
  • Pros: 1920x1200 resolution, input variety, sheer size, solid construction. If you don't care about accurate colors or attempting to pair it with another monitor that's not another VW266H, this is a great value. I really appreciated having the extra vertical pixels (especially when coding), which unfort...
  • Cons: Color reproduction is awful. It's a toy compared to most other monitors in terms of accurate colors, so don't even bother if you plan on doing any color-intensive work. I spent at least a week or two trying just about every combination of onboard settings and software calibration in an attempt to...
