Summary: Just purchased my second Asus VH236H, this time was for my wifes computer. Having utilized the first unit flawlessly for over a year now, I felt comfortable enough ordering another one. I've been using ASUS monitors now for some time, and I can honestly say i've been pleased with every single one (about 5 or 6). The main benefits of this particular model include: 23in display, low power draw (<55w), good colors, and a full range of inputs.
Summary: EDIT: I recently watched another movie with the built in speakers and what I originally said about the audio distortion after a cretin range is incorrect, what I experienced was mostly due to low quality audio from the file I was watching; with the higher quality audio it was quite distinct and dialog was understandable from 5-6 ft away, I can't say anything about further then that because the room was smallish.
ASUS VH236H 23 Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black
6 April 2012
Summary: Got the monitor for $150-$20 rebate. Great monitor for the price. It met all my requirements like inbuilt speaker and multiple option for input. I use HDMI to connect this to my laptop. Good for work + watching movies. The speaker on the monitor is also good for casual movie viewing. Following cables was included in the package: VGA, DVI and male to male audio cable. Initially I connected the HDMI cable but there was no video.
Summary: I bought this monitor specifically because it is (was?) the official monitor of the Evolution Fighting Game Tournament held yearly during mid-summer. The reason that organization has chosen this monitor for their event is because of its relatively low input lag time. To clarify, input lag is the amount of time in between the button press of a controller to display on the screen. The response time ratings given by manufacturers does not tell you anything about input lag.
Summary: After searching almost exclusively for an LED monitor, buying a highly rated Acer, and then promptly returning it... I found this Gem. Less than $150 after mail-in rebate with every feature I needed, I was sold! My motherboards have always been Asus, but the VH236H is the first Asus made monitor I have purchased and let me tell you, whether it be monitor or motherboard, Asus makes a quality product.
Summary: I bought this item for a client works well. It has plenty of connections for everything: VGA, DVI, and even HDMI. It has a decent response time for gaming. Of course this is not a IPS display so don't expect color accuracy or viewing angles. I know a lot of other people will disagree with me but I love glossy displays and this display is not glossy. I think I would have given it a full five stars for the review had it been glossy.
Summary: Not bad for the money. It does just what I needed it too. The only bad part that I can tell so far is that when you are looking at the screen from an odd angle you can definitely see lines but it’s not a big deal because you really need to be at an odd angle. Not a bad thing just a little annoying but the inputs are somewhat hard to get to in the back. Over all this is a really nice screen and I would definitely get it again.
Summary: I chose it for its fast 2ms response time, size, price, and brand (Asus is a high quality brand, much better than Acer and Hanspree who sell cheap monitors). Very nice monitor that I plan to use for a pc with tv tuner. The only complaints I have is the stand does not rotate, and the finish is a glossy black instead of solid black (attracts fingerprints). Overall great buy: High Performance for gaming and movies at a good price.
Very good, but has the limitations of a traditional LCD monitor

Summary: Black-level, motion blur, color accuracy, and overall picture are very good for an LCD monitor with a TN panel. In fact, they may approach the best that can be achieved with traditional LCD technology. For less than $200, this monitor is a great value. Unfortunately, traditional LCD technology isn't good enough. Blacks are still greyish, and motion blue is still a problem.
Summary: The price is good, especially after the coupon. The sound is OK. A minimum but not super speaker. The color is a little bit off of real colors, but acceptable. If you are using photoshop, you might want to reconsider. As everone else said, due to its 16:9 ratio, the high is lower than regular pc monitor, but closer to what hdtv is. Be warned: to watch hdtv, your pc/laptop has to have a hd output. Be it either hdmi or dvi. vga is not enough. Setup is OK.
