No signal when connecting my Mac G5 using HDMI

I tried going out of my Mac DVI out with a DVI to HDMI adapter to the HDMI input of the monitor but I get no signal. I get signal when I go from the Mac HDMI to other devices (projector and even another LCD with HDMI) but it just doesn't like the x233H. I have two x233H and I have tried both monitors with the same result, no signal. I know the HDMI works on the monitor because I connected a DVD player to it and I get picture. Anyone have a solution? Is there something I'm missing here?
