3D Monitor Shoot-Out: Acer HN274H & ViewSonic V3D245
28 August 2011
Excerpt: There's no question about it: 3D technology is HOT right now. Whether you're ready to hop on the bandwagon or just want to keep on top of what's out there, there are two new monitors that should be on your radar, the Acer HN274H and ViewSonic V3D245. Both of these 3D monitors feature embedded 3D emitters designed for NVIDIA's 3D Vision technology.
Pros: Built-in emitters, Glasses included, 3D technology works with more than 525 games, Plenty of ports on the Acer HN274H, Latest 3D technology
Cons: Costly, Acer HN274H takes a while to wake from sleep, ViewSonic V3D245 base has a sizeable footprint, No height and pivot controls on either monitor
Excerpt: Acer’s HN274H is remarkable. Not only is this 27-inch display the first to incorporate the 3D Vision IR emitter into the display itself, but it also has HDMI 1.4a—so it’s capable of being used with a Blu-ray deck or PlayStation 3—and a WLED backlight. Exciting stuff, but it doesn’t do much good if the display is a disappointment in 2D. Fortunately, in that regard the HN274H was stellar.
Pros: Embedded emitter and can double as mini 3D TV
Cons: Expensive and black level could use a slight improvement
