DEAD in 2 months

Taylor B., Newegg
26 March 2015
  • Summary: Still waiting to receive rebate. With 2.5 months of use, assuming I get the rebate, I just barely got my money's worth out of it.
  • Pros: Price with rebate at time of purchase (12/22/2014) was under 3 months modem rental cost with Comcast. Worked well with 50mb Blast Comcast internet (while it worked)
  • Cons: Started using 1/9/2015. Worked great (50mb down/10mb up speedtest with Comcast Blast). Had to reset the modem a few times start early March. 3/24/2015 - Status light on modem slow blinking. Internet not working. Navigated to modem diagnostic (192.168.100.1). It was hung up on Download CM Config F...

Faster than Comcast's Doc S 3.0 modem

william b., Newegg
24 March 2015
  • Summary: Super positives Zyxel gets 20% more speed than the highend comcast modem Lol i guess comcast has less control over an aftremarket modem.,upload speed is almost a 10% increase. On Blast 50/10 ,i get 60/11 & NO DROP OUTS ,I can only give it 4 stars due to the heat. But it is a little speed demon
  • Pros: An update to my earlier 2 star review.Laying the modem flat it becomes worrisome to hot and affects performance.Sitting the modem upright and while still warm it is not unacceptable. Also i was being throttled on upload 5mb when paying for 10mb. Just sitting the modem upright solved both problems.
  • Cons: runs warm ,the small enclosure istheissue

Value modem

Siyi F., Newegg
23 March 2015
  • Pros: Comcast constantly called or emailed to have DOCSIS 3.0 modem required since they upgrade my cable speed to 50 mbps. This small cable modem is a very good one with budget and value with rebate. No issue and speed went up to 60 compared to my old Motorola 2.0 DOCSIS modem. I don't believe to eithe...

ZyXEL BRG35503 DOCSIS 3.0 Residential Cable Modem Compatible with Comcast Network

Steph R., Newegg
22 March 2015
  • Summary: Only has been in operation for a couple of days, but I'm impressed with performance. Reliability will take longer to determine...keeping my fingers crossed (based on reviews). Installation was a kind of pain due to spending an hour on phone with 1st and 2nd level Comcast "techs" who could not get it...
  • Pros: Improved speed (from 32 Mbps to 60 Mbps!), good price (w/$20 rebate), quick, free delivery (Thanks newegg!), got Comcast off my back because of "outdated" technology.....
  • Cons: Installation issues (see below), but not necessarily because of the modem issue

ZyXEL BRG35503 DOCSIS 3.0 Residential Cable Modem

Steph R., Newegg
21 March 2015
  • Summary: Spent over an hour on the phone w/Comcast 1st and 2nd level "techs" and couldn't get it working (they were courteous but not really very knowledgeable :( Was about to return the unit when I remembered some of the other reviews here and postings elsewhere that talked about the difficulty of getting...
  • Pros: Good price (w/rebate), fast (nearly double the download speed), easy to install (once I stopped using Comcast "techs"...see "Other thoughts" below), fast shipping time from Newegg, thank you (helps to live close to a newegg distribution center :)
  • Cons: None yet (only 1 day experience)

  • Summary: I
  • Pros: I downgraded to 3 eggs because of problems after 6 months. New modem didn't fix network glitches which went away with swapping buffalo router that was part of package deal. Things are back to normal after a day with old retired router so I suspect router was bad. I agree with heat issue. My modem...
  • Cons: Runs hot. Cooling fan hack seems protective. I will keep this now retired unit as a spare.

Easy to setup but Runs HOT!

william b., Newegg
18 March 2015
  • Summary: My download speed has increased an upload decreased ,i have blast 50/10 and have been getting 60/5 with the ZyXEL. I have warned the family to make sure nothing is near or sitting on the modem because of the heat.In fact right after i write this review i will stand the modem vertically ,following...
  • Pros: Economical and small footprint.Easy to install with Comcast. 20 percent faster download speeds than comcasts rental modem. 60mb over 50 mb
  • Cons: Major con and worrisome con is the incredible heat this modem throws off ,you could probably fry an egg on top.My upload speed seems to fluctuate now between 3 and 6 but this could be a comcast isp problem

acting up after 6 months

Anonymous, Newegg
17 March 2015
  • Pros: Prior reviews stated that there are heat problems so I attached an external fan which kept it cool. After six months internet started dropping out daily needing unplug/plug cycle. New modem ordered will swap out and verify problem.
  • Cons: Lasted six months

Works fine, runs hot unless you raise it

William T., Newegg
17 March 2015
  • Summary: If this lasts nearly as long as our Motorola SB4100 (13.5 years old and still going strong, but our ISP is phasing out support for DOCSIS 1/1.1 modems) I'll be very happy.
  • Pros: Works for us, but our service doesn't stretch its bandwidth capabilities at all. Set-up was smooth though had to call our non-Comcast ISP to have them register its MAC address as one they recognized. Great price after rebate (even better last December as I understand, but I'm not complaining).
  • Cons: Boots and connects kinda slowly (maybe it's optimized to connect to Comcast?), but booting happens rarely anyway. Runs hot enough that I'd worry about its longevity unless you raise it to give it better air circulation underneath (after which it doesn't even get very warm).

Really solid

James D., Newegg
15 March 2015
  • Summary: I bought this modem 10 months ago and had mixed results. I have Comcast and pay for the blast internet. My event log was flooded with weird errors day and night. I sent my first modem back thinking it was a hardware issue. Zyxel (hitron) gladly sent me a new one.
  • Pros: Small simple design. Price. DOCSIS 3.0
  • Cons: No stand, must be laid horizontally unless you place it in between books or something. Only 4 channel bonding. Will max out @ 131mb/s. Not a huge deal as Comcast doesn't bond 8 channels just yet anyway. DOCSIS 3.1 is apparently on the horizon.
