Summary: When buying this item make sure to buy it new. Mine was a refurbished model and I had to get Netgear to get it set it up with new software and I had to buy a 6 month contract which cost me an additional $80.00. I will not buy any item that is refurbished again unless it comes from the manufacture.
Summary: I've been an internet user since the late 90's and used a variety of ISP's and routers, this is by far the worse router i've had this misfortune to purchase. As a work around to the current issue (I'm using most up 2 date firmware) you have to manually add all dhcp clients upon initial connection else they will get booted off and locked out until router is rebooted.
Summary: I needed a DSL gigabit router and chose the cheapest one, doh! Having subsequently looked at the other reviews, doh again! I realise now why it is cheap. It simply doesn't work. I have several wireless devices including an iPad and a Logitech squeezebox radio and neither can hold a wireless connection. I tried upgrading to the latest firmware and ensuring I powered off the varius devices in the correct sequence.
Summary: I initially contacted Netgear to ask them to recommend a router with a stonger Wi fi signal than my current one. They recommended I purchase the DGN3500. I have always bought Netgear products in the past and this is my third or fourth modem router over the years. Set up was very difficult and resulted in no Wi-fi....... around 2.5 hours of tech support ended with the advisor suggesting that I return the product as it was faulty. Which I did.
Summary: The Netgear philosophy seems to be about maintaining cash-flow not operability. If the router stops working after 90 days you have the option to spend £90 pa for support who will tell you how to upgrade the firmware for instance. Thus they have every incentive to make this process as cumbersome as it is. The free for 90 days support is to someone who does not speak English clearly and offers no real help.
Summary: don't bother getting this because there's a good chance you could end up with 10 - 15 dropouts a day like me. upgraded firmware, scanned for other networks with inssider and my changed channel, confirmed adsl settings with virgin but to no avail - after all that it was still rubbish... and the ultimate irony was that when I tried to contact netgear their email webform was down due to technical difficulties!
Summary: This has to be the worst router I have ever had the misfortune to own! Let me start by saying that I have worked in IT for 20 years now and would like to think that I know my way around bits of kit like this so its not 'user error' causing any of my problems...anyway, to the review: The router setup is very straightforward and you will have it connected in minutes, its a nice looking bit of equipment with no obtrusive antenna and the signal is excellent [most of the...
