Works Well For Me

Vincent R., Newegg
28 March 2014
  • Summary: I bought this device to replace a failing Actiontec modem/router that was only 17 months old. I have existing Verizon DSL service. Remember to wait for the globe to light up yellow on the router after you hook it up. I waited over an hour after I hooked everything up. Then I was good to go.
  • Pros: Easy To Set up. Follow the Genie installation guide. No software required to install on your computer
  • Cons: None really but when I mounted it horizontally the bottom of the unit got very, very warm. Almost hot. I used the stand to mount it vertically and the next day it was ice cold.

Did not receive what I ordered

Marc S., Newegg
26 February 2014
  • Pros: I received something.
  • Cons: I did not receive what I ordered. Also, what I did receive was severely damaged. I am now waiting to see if they will refund my money and take back their garbage. This seems like a pattern with these guys so I would recommend buying elsewhere.

Great after solving problem

Philip D., Newegg
28 November 2013
  • Summary: I have the dgn2200v3 model and could for the life of me not figure out why I could not save changes in the routers config. Then I tried something. I was using Internet Explorer to log into the router and change settings.
  • Pros: Fast, reliable, good range. I connect an Ipod Touch 5th gen to this as well as My cell phone and kindle Fire HD tablet, and two Roku's. I have hard wired my main computer to this as well. everything runs great. I also love the easy press button security set up as well as the other button which tu...
  • Cons: Lights don't flash when uploading or downloading so you cant tell unless you have something on screen showing your upload/download progress. Not a big deal but would have been nice.

Tried two - both failed

William W., Newegg
11 October 2013
  • Summary: Spent a long time with support on phone and chat. They were both polite, but just reading from a script - and doing the same things I had already done over and over - didn't help much.
  • Pros: None so far.
  • Cons: First unit would open the initial setup page but time out on any access after that. Second unit would time out trying to access the initial page. Both assigned address correctly to my PC, and I could ping the modem @ its gateway address - so they weren't completely dead. Without being able to acc...

DO NOT BUY

Anthony C., Newegg
24 June 2013
  • Summary: rating system is needs to be fixed. I would give negivite stars.
  • Pros: NONE. Product did not work.
  • Cons: This is the second order of the same model (first was from Ama zon). BOTH, repeat BOTH of them failed in the same exact way in that they were not able to pass packets once connected to DSL. The Internet light always stayed RED. I can not recommend you buy this unit with such a bad fail rate. I wo...

Bobby F., Newegg
25 August 2012
  • Pros: Worked great, never had a problem with it at all! Would still be using it if I hadn't switched to cable!
  • Cons: The user interface takes a little getting use to, but read a little about it and its pretty simple.

Works great, just make sure you check some things before you buy.

Simon A., Newegg
14 June 2012
  • Summary: All you need to do to set it up is call your ISP to find out your login, password, and the settings for two things called VPI and VCI. (That was my experience with Quest/CenturyLink) A paper included confirmed it to work with AT&T, Verizon, Qwest and CenturyLink, but consult your ISP to be sure.
  • Pros: Fast, Reliable, Does what it's supposed to. Saw the GNU license inside, good to see big companies going open source. Haven't had heating problems; I own the v3 version.
  • Cons: Only one I can think of is that it may be confusing to set up for an inexperienced user, but it's not the product's fault, it's the way DSL works with it's login credentials and whatnot. See Other Thoughts for an explanation. It was hard to hear the indian woman on the phone giving me the login i...

Worthless

Dennis Y., Newegg
29 April 2012
  • Summary: Junk!
  • Pros: it showed up on time
  • Cons: Everything about it. It wouldnt connect to qwest internet, so i decided i would use it as a router and disable the wifi on the qwest modem. all that did was let some computers connect to it, and others wouldnt have internet. After a month of trying different things i got frustrated and decided to...
